New Angelina Jolie Maleficent Movie Delivered Cool Special Effects,Major Twist & More
Walt Disney Pictures released their new Angelina Jolie branded, fantasy flick, “Maleficent,” into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty entertaining ,featuring a lot of great special effects, drama, a pretty big twist in the end, and more. The movie stars: Angelina Jolie, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.
In the new flick, we were served up some backstory for Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), which revealed why she became so evil and full of hate. It turns out she was a good child fairy at the start and helped protect a peaceable forest kingdom. She met a young lad named Stefan and eventually fell in love with him. However, Stefan had other ambitions that grew greater than his love and spending time with Maleficent.
From there, we get bumped ahead in the story’s timeline. Maleficent is all grown up now, and in the midst of protecting her forest kingdom from a dark ruler, King Henry, and his army. It just so happens that Stefan is apart of King Henry’s crew. King Henry gets severely injured by Maleficent, and offers up his throne to whoever defeats Maleficent.
This prompted ambitious Stefan to go make nice with Maleficent again, only to end up, drugging her and clipping her wings, so he could make it look like he killed her to get the throne. This awful act, of course, pissed Maleficent off like nobody’s business, causing to her to place an irreversible curse on Stefan’s daughter, Aurora (Elle Fanning). The curse forced her to get pricked by the needle of a spindle wheel on her 16th birthday ,causing her to fall into a never-ending sleep, and no power on Earth could stop it, not even Maleficent.
However, after much pleading from Stefan, Maleficent did allow for the curse to be destroyed, but only by true love’s kiss. This caused Stefan to scramble to protect Aurora from all the spindles on Earth by having them burned. He also sent Aurora away from the castle to be raised by pixies. This also caused Stefan to full on hate Maleficent, and spend his every waking moment thinking of ways to defeat her and her curse.
Meanwhile, Maleficent spied on Aurora and the pixies, and eventually got to know Aurora and spend time with her under the guise of her Godmother. Their relationship grew so strong that Maleficent tried to reverse the looming curse she had once cast upon Aurora, but since she made it to where no power on Earth could stop it, the curse was it’s own living beast ,just waiting to execute when the time came.
When the time came near, Aurora found out the curse was placed on her by Maleficent, causing her to return to her father ,Stefan, and the palace out of anger. However, all the protection in the world couldn’t stop the now “self living” curse from drawing Aurora to a magical spindle to get cut and send her into her possible lifetime of slumber.
Maleficent and the pixies tried to get a young man that Aurora briefly met, named Prince Phillip, to come in and kiss her, but it turns out that a major twist made a seemingly unlikely person the only one that could wake Aurora up. Again, I thought the movie was pretty entertaining.
It wasn’t as good as the trailers depict as it was pretty low key during the middle parts. I thought Angelina Jolie did a good job for what it was. I gave it a C+ grade. Stay tuned. Also, get your favorite Movie stuff, and more by Clicking Here.
