New Dumb And Dumber TO Movie Delivered Ok Laughs,Messy Plotline & More
Universal Pictures released their new comedy flick, “Dumb And Dumber TO” into theaters this weekend. I just watched it, and thought it was ok with a few good laughs here and there. However, there was a ton corny as hell stuff the they through into the mix. But overall, it kept me entertained. It stars: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Rob Riggle, Laurie Holden, Rachel Melvin and Kathleen Turner.
In the new flick, we start out seeing Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), visiting his best friend, Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) at Baldy View Mental Hospital for the past 20 years. Lloyd has supposedly been committed there ever since his doomed romance with Mary Swanson (aka Samsonite). Harry finally end up telling Lloyd that he can’t come visit him anymore due to him needing a new kidney and needing to take care of that.
From there, Lloyd reveals that the entire, past 20 years of being committed was just a huge joke and that the length of time was necessary to get the best laugh out of it. Shortly after that, there quest was on to find Harry a new kidney. And they sought out Harry’s supposed daughter that he never knew about, to get the kidney.
They hit up the daughter’s mother, Fraida Felcher, to get the address of the daughter, who’s name turns out to be Penny. Fraida had given her up for adoption as a baby. Unfortunately, Penny already left for the KEN Convention in El Paso,TX before Harry and Lloyd made it to her house. But that’s ok, because Harry and Lloyd built up a weird rapport with Penny’s rich, adoptive father, Dr. Bernard Pinchelow. However, it’s revealed that Bernard’s girlfriend, Adele, is really plotting with the family’s male housekeeper, Travis, to kill Bernard and still his fortune.
Bernard eventually has Harry and Lloyd deliver a special box ,that he has revealed is worth billions, to give to Penny, and Travis tags along to make sure they don’t mess up, and to steal the box. Along the way, Harry and LLoyd tick Travis off enough for him to attempt to literally kill them, but gets hit by a massive train in the process, leaving Harry and Lloyd to make it to El Paso on their own.
After that point, a number of twists in the plotline go down that end up, revealing that neither Harry or Lloyd is the father, and never could have been, because they never actually had sex with Fraida. Adele and Travis’ bother, Captain Lippincott , teamed up to finish Travis’ job of killing the boys and stealing the special box.
However, Bernard shows up with the FBI to take down Adele and Captain Lippincott. It was kind of a really big mess during the conclusion as a plethora of different storylines came full circle to reveal their twists. But at the root of it all, it was just caused by Harry being dumb and Lloyd being even dumber or vice-versa as they easily could share equal amounts of stupidity as far as I’m concerned.
Again, I thought the movie was just ok with some really good laughs, here and there. The corniness of a lot of the jokes, kind of dampened things. I mean, when the jokes were bad, they were really bad. On a good note, I was never board watching the movie. It kept me quite entertained for the entire runtime. I gave the movie a solid C+ grade.
