New The Gambler Movie Delivered Great Drama,Interesting Plot & More
Paramount Pictures released their new drama flick, “The Gambler,” into theaters this past Thursday. I just watched it and thought it was quite entertaining with an interesting plotline, much drama, and more. It stars: John Goodman, Mark Wahlberg, Jessica Lange, Brie Larson and Michael Kenneth Williams.
The movie revolved around English professor, Jim Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), who is also an extreme gambler that just constantly gambles away every single penny that he has and then some. After his tab with an Asian gambling ring owner, Alvin Ing, reaches over $260,000, he decides to borrow another $50,000 from a dangerous gangster, named Neville Baraka, only to gamble it all away just moments later. Oh, it was so painful to watch.
Now owing two dangerous people a whole hell of a lot of money, Jim turns to an even more dangerous loan shark, named Frank ( John Goodman), to get the money to pay off Neville and Alvin, but gets turned down. From there, he asks his rich mother, Roberta, for the money and she eventually cracks down and gives it to him. But shockingly enough, he gambles away her $260,000 in cash in just a few hours after that!
Neville eventually raises the stakes for not paying him back by threatening the people that Jim cares about, Amy and Lamar. This turns out to be enough for Jim to buck up and do the right thing. With Lamar being the college basketball star, Jim is able to get him to control the point spread of one of his basketball games, so Jim can pull off a huge, mega bet that ultimately leads to his final, ultimate bet that would finally set him free.
Again, i thought the plotline was very interesting and kept me entertained for the nearly 2 hour runtime. I thought Mark Wahlberg did a great job as usual with the very problematic gambler character. I gave the movie a solid B+ grade. Stay tuned. Also, get your favorite Movie stuff, and more by Clicking Here.
