New Point Break Movie Received Mixed Reviews From Major Movie Critics
Warner Bros. Pictures delivered their new action/thriller movie, “Point Break,” into theaters today, December 25th, 2015, and the reviews are in from just a few of the major, top movie critics. They ended up with a pretty mixed score of 45 out of a possible 100 across just 4 reviews at the Metacritic.com site.
The film stars: Clemens Schick, Édgar Ramírez, Luke Bracey, Matias Padin, Ray Winstone and Teresa Palmer. We’ve added comments from a couple of the critics, below.
Tom Russo from the Boston Globe, gave it a less than stellar 63 score, stating: “For all the adrenalizing positives in this reworked Point Break, inadvertent silliness remains.”
Elizabeth Kerr over at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 50 score. She said: “Ericson Core’s Point Break strips the silly fun and relatively straight-ahead narrative from the original for a humorless, if photogenic spin on extreme crime.”
James Marsh over at Screen International, gave it a 40 grade, saying: “Core’s incarnation of Point Break is about one thing, extreme sports, and it is no small relief that the film at least handles those sequences well.”
Finally, Maggie Lee over at Variety, gave it a 40 grade, stating: “The sense of living dangerously is somewhat lacking as Kurt Wimmer’s emotionally vacant screenplay fails to make audiences care enough about the characters to sweat over their physical exertions.” Stay tuned.
