The Bachelorette August 21, 2023 Final Pick & New Bachelor 2024 Revealed In Finale (Recap)

Hey, Bachelor Nation fans. Tonight, August 21, 2023, another new episode of The Bachelorette 2023 edition with headliner Charity Lawson did indeed hit the air. This one was the 3-hour finale episode. So, we finally got to see who Charity picked to be her future husband at the end of it.

Tonight’s new, finale episode kicked off with host Jesse Palmer Live in studio. Then, he showed scenes from the final episode. It picked up from where episode 7 left off with the aftermath of Aaron B making a surprise second attempt to win over Charity’s heart. Charity told the private cams, “I didn’t want to say goodbye to Aaron the first time. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. This is insane. What are we gonna do? This is not a drill.”

Charity and Aaron talked on the beach. She asked Aaron, “What do you want to do?” He said, “I want to be in your corner for any decision you make. I’m willing to take the risk.” Charity told the private cams, “It’s worth it to see how this goes.” Charity told Aaron, “I want you to stay and have dinner,” and they kissed. Charity told the private cams, “I’m glad that Aaron did not give up on this and saw me as someone worth fighting for. My fears are, ‘can we get there?’

Later, Aaron came over to Charity’s room for drinks. He told her, “I feel good everytime I see you,” and they kissed some more. Next, we got footage of the rose ceremony. Charity explained to a confused Joey and Dotun what happened during the week with Xavier and Aaron. Then, she gave Joey and Dotun a rose.

Before handing out the last rose, Charity talked privately with Aaron and told him, “I’m so grateful for this time to get more clarity. Unfortunately, time is not on our side. I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but that is the reality. I’m so grateful for you not giving up and wanting to be here.” Aaron told Charity, “I’m always in your corner.” Charity told the private cams, “The little time me and Aaron had would not be good enough to surpass what I’ve built with Joey and Dotun.”

Charity came back to the rose ceremony and explained everything that happened with Aaron to Dotun and Joey, and she gave Dotun the second rose. So, Joey and Dotun became the final two guys at this point.

Jesse talked with Aaron LIVE in studio. Aaron talked about flying out to Fiji. He said, “I’ve never put myself out there like that before, but I was just not going to give up.” Jesse also revealed that Aaron will be on the new season of Bachelor In Paradise.

Next, we saw more of the finale episode. Charity was seen greeting her family who had arrived to meet Joey and Dotun. Joey showed up first to meet Charity’s family. Joey talked with Charity’s sister Mia. He told her, “I’m totally in love with Charity.” They talked about interracial relationships. Mia confirmed with Joey that they don’t have a problem with race. “It’s all about love. As long as you’re the right person, we’re happy,” she said. Mia told the private cams, “I feel really good about Joey.”

Charity talked with Mia. Mia told her, “I just want you to make the choice that’s true to you.” Joey talked with Charity’s mother Vickie. He told her, “My feelings for Charity are very real. She makes me feel like I can be the best version of myself. We talked about family first. I’m hoping I can be a part of your family.” Vickie said, “I see you as very genuine person. We appreciate you for being the person you are.”

Vickie told the private cams, “I really feel good about Joey. The whole family connected with him.” Joey talked with Charity’s dad about sports. They looked like they had a good time. Vickie told the private cams, “I think Joey could be the one.” Joey and Charity talked afterwards, and they told each other they feel great about everything.

Next, we got footage of Dotun greeting Charity with a big hug and kiss. Then, Dotun met Charity’s family. He told them, “I’ve never felt this way about anyone.” Dotun talked with Charity’s mother Vickie. He told her, “Charity checks all the boxes of what I want in a partner. She’s someone I think I can learn from. She’s a special person.” Vickie told the private cams, “Dotun checks all the boxes, but he’s very familiar. Charity seems to always gravitate towards that.”

Vickie told Charity, “You have more pep in your step with Joey than with Dotun.” Dotun talked with Charity’s sister Mia. He told her, “I don’t know if I’ll ever find another love like this. So, I feel Charity is definitely worth it.” Mia told Charity, “Dotun is very intelligent, and you have a certain chemistry, but Joey makes you glow. Dotun makes you laugh a lot. I can see you with Dotun, but I just need more time to get to know him better.”

Charity’s family, especially her mother told Charity that they think both Dotun and Joey would be great additions to their family, but they can’t make the decision for her. Charity kept wanting them to give her their choice, and they refused to make comparisons between Dotun and Joey. They kept telling Charity that she needs to make her own decision with this.

After all of that, we got footage of Charity and Joey’s last 1 on 1 date. They talked over drinks. They talked about how things went with her family. She told him, “My mom couldn’t stop raving about you.” Joey told her, “My goal was not to tell them I’m in love with you, but to make them see that I am in love with you.”

Then, Joey gave her a gift, which was a framed poem from one of their other 1 on 1 dates. She loved it. She told him, “I love you,” and they kissed. Charity said, “This feels so good. I’ve got all that I need” while laying in Joey’s arms.

Dotun and Charity’s final 1 on 1 date of this season was up next. They greeted each other with a hug. They talked over drinks. The talked about Charity’s family. Dotun told her, “I feel like I showed your family how much love I have for you.” Then, he gave her a gift too. It was certain items they experienced during their many dates of this season.

Charity told the private cams, “My love with Dotun isn’t too good to be true. We’re both deserving.” Dotun told Charity, “I trust whatever decision you make. I just want you to be happy.” Charity said, “My brain is clouded right now. I have a lot to think about.” Charity told the private cams, “After my date with Dotun, I’m so confused. I have no clue how the final rose will play out.”

Next, we saw footage of Dotun and Joey meeting up with Neil Lane to pick out their engagement rings. At the final rose ceremony, Joey showed up first. He told her, “I would be lucky to be a part of your story. I really can’t wait to see what comes next.”

Then, Charity stopped him and said, “This journey has been far more than I could ever ask for. You’ve been very consistent in the love you’ve shown. I’ve never doubted your love, but I’ve found love that’s deeper with someone else as crazy at that sounds. I know it won’t make sense in this moment.”

Joey said, “It’s ok. Can I give you a hug?” And they hugged. Charity said, “My love for you is truly never going to go away. I’m truly broken. I know this is hard for you.” Joey said, “I just want you to be happy.” During the exit car ride, Joey told the private cams, “I was envisioning our life together. I had zero doubt. I wanted to leave here with Charity, and it just got taken away just like that. I just want love so bad. When is it going to happen for me?”

Jesse and Joey talked live in studio. Joey said, “It’s something you never think you’re gonna go through. It’s tough to see. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, but it’s what I signed up for.

Charity and Joey talked live in studio. Joey told her, “I was very appreciative of the experience, and I just wanted to see how you were doing.” Charity said, “I was extremely emotional. It was not easy. There was lots of going back and forth. I will always have so much respect and love for you. I thank you so much. I really do. It’s hard. The love will always be there.” Joey said, “I just want you to know I felt lucky to be a part of your experience.”

Back to the final rose footage, Dotun showed up and told Charity, “There’s so much we’ve been through. You’ve made me feel so incredibly special. I’m certain I want to spend the rest of my life showing you what that means.” Charity said,”I see a man that respects me and values me. You make me feel so valued and so safe. I want a forever future with you. I see you as my husband. I have no doubts. I don’t question it. I love you so much.”

Dotun said, “You’ve taught me that a good thing can really just be a good thing. Will you marry me? Charity said, “Yes,” and they kissed and hugged. To cap things off, Charity asked Dotun, “Will you accept this final rose?” He of course said, “Yes.”

Next, we got Charity and Dotun live in studio. They talked about how happy they are to finally be able to go public with their relationship. Of the final rose ceremony, Dotun said, “I tried to be level-headed going into the final rose ceremony because I didn’t know what her other relationship were like. Charity means everything to me. I’ve never been more certain about anything in my entire life.”

Charity and Dotun said they’re currently continuing to build their relationship. ABC gave them a trip to Greece as a gift. To wrap up their segment, Dotun told Charity that she’s going to be on the new season of “Dancing With The Stars” 2023 season. So, she was excited about that.

Next, host Jesse Palmer revealed that Joey is actually going to be the new Bachelor headliner for the 2024 season of The Bachelor. Joey said, “It feels very surreal. It’s sinking in slowly. I’m excited.” He explained what he’s looking for in a partner. “I just want the women to be themselves. I’m just excited to get to know them,” he said.

One lady got to date Joey on tonight’s show. It was a girl named Leia from the audience. Joey told Leia, “Thank you for being here. I can’t wait.” Leia told Joey,”I’m really excited. I think you carry yourself with such grace. I think this is going to be an awesome journey for you.” Joey told Leia, “You’re beautiful. I like the sweet things you said. I’m excited to get to know you.” Jesse gave Leia a card that will help her on her journey in the new Bachelor 2024 season, but she can’t open it until she steps foot inside the mansion on the new season.
