For starters, CBS let us know that there is an official title for tonight’s new, October 21, 2023 episode 6. It’s called, “Unmasking The ZombieHunter.”
In tonight’s new, October 21, 2023 episode 6, the 48 Hours team is going to take a deep look at a story about two women named Angela Brosso age 21, and Melanie Bernas age 17. These two ladies were killed on separate occasions while riding their bikes over in Phoenix, Arizona during a 10-month span between the years 1992 and 1993.
The investigators that worked this case found the same DNA on both of the women, but they couldn’t find a match for the DNA at that time. So, their cases went cold for 21 years. Now, due to some new DNA and genetic genealogy technology, the police were finally able to get a DNA match to hunt down a person of interest, which is a 42-year old man named Patrick Miller who is a divorced father and raising a teenage daughter.
The investigators found out that Patrick Miller had an alter ego. Apparently, he was widely known for participating in parades and festivals as a character named “Zombie Hunter.” This character is a comic book hero who is armed with a huge Gatling gun.
The detectives just needed to get a hold of a piece of Bryan Miller’s DNA to confirm him as a suspect, and they ended up going to a local Chili’s restaurant to try and achieve this goal. Correspondent Peter Van Sant handled the reporting duties for this case and episode.
CBS’ official description for tonight’s new, October 21,2023 episode 6 of 48 hours season 37 reads like this, “The murders of two young Phoenix, Ariz., women killed 10 months apart in 1992 and 1993 went unsolved for more than two decades.
Investigators found the same DNA on both victims but had no match. Then, thanks to new technology, police had a person of interest, and tracked him in an unusual way. Correspondent Peter Van Sant reports on the case and the trail to the killer in 48 HOURS: “Unmasking the Zombie Hunter.”
An alternate description tells us, “48 HOURS” REPORTS ON HOW THE POLICE USED A CHILI’S RESTAURANT TO CATCH A MURDERER WHO POSED AS A ZOMBIE-FIGHTING COMIC BOOK HERO.” True-crime reporter for KPHO-TV in Phoenix Briana Whitney stated, “Angela Brosso, 21, and Melanie Bernas, 17, were separately killed while riding their bikes along the Phoenix Canal. These murders became widely known as the Phoenix Canal Murders.”
CBS’ press release confirmed that the next, new episode 6 of 48 Hours’ current season 37 is indeed scheduled to hit your TV screens tonight, October 21, 2023, starting at approximately 9 pm central standard time. Tonight’s new episode will be a 1-hour event. So, expect it to wrap up at 10 pm central standard time.
