New Focus Movie Delivered Great Drama,Action,Twists & More
Warner Bros. Pictures released their new action/drama flick, “Focus,” into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty entertaining ,especially towards the end. It was filled lots of interesting twists, leading up the ultimate twist. It stars: Will Smith, Rodrigo Santoro, Gerald McRaney and Margot Robbie.
In the new flick, character, Nicky Spurgeon (Will Smith), who is a seasoned con-man, ends up meeting an unexperienced grifter, Jess Barrett (Margot Robbie), who attempts to seduce him in order to pretend they’ve been caught by her jealous husband, in order to con Nicky.
However, Nicky being the ultimate con-artist, sees right through the deception as it is happening, and eventually exposes their plan and also gets to cop all kinds of feels on gorgeous Jess at the same time. Jess being quite impressed with Nicky’s skills, eventually gets him to teach her the ropes.
From there, Jess pulls off a series of minor cons in New Orleans as a test to prove that she’s got it all down. Nicky and Jess also get romantic during this close, bonding process. However, Nicky was taught to never become emotionally involved with business partners, so he set up a big gambling situation in which they ended up pocketing over 2 million dollars. Then Nicky gave her cut and left her high and dry.
Fast-forwarding 3 years later, Nicky runs back into Jess during a con job where Nicky is pretending to be a representative of Australian businessman ,McEwen, in order to con billionaire businessman Rafael Garriga and his business partner, Owens into giving him access to a new software developed by Garriga, which Nicky plans to sell to several businessmen, keeping the profits for himself.
Jess is pretending to be Garriga’s girlfriend to steal one of his high-priced watches and to make Nicky jealous. Nicky does start to pursue Jess again, and they end up back in bed. Then they set to run off again after Nicky sold Garriga’s software. However, they’re captured by one of Garriga’s men, setting up a very dramatic and suspenseful conclusion that ends with Nicky appearing to get shot and killed while trying to save Jess’ life with more lies. However, another huge twist in the plotline, allows Nicky to pull off the ultimate and seemingly impossible con.
Again, I thought the movie was quite entertaining, especially when they went into con artist mode. I thought Will Smith did a good job, bringing some humor to the role and Margot Robbie was very nice eye candy. I gave the movie a solid B+ grade. Stay tuned.
