New Alvin And The Chipmunks 4 Movie Received Mostly Bad Reviews From Major Critics
20th Century FOX delivered their new family/comedy movie, “Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: The Road Chip,” into theaters this weekend, and all the reviews have been turned in from the top, major movie critics. It turns out that it didn’t resonate well with most of them, getting only an overall 34 score out of a possible 100 score across 18 reviews at Metacritic.com.
The film stars: Jason Lee, Jesica Ahlberg, and Tony Hale. We’ve delivered comments from a few critics, below.
Sheila O’Malley over at RogerEbert.com, gave it a less than stellar 63 grade, stating: “The opening party represents what is best about the movie: it’s pure mayhem and it’s entirely silly.”
Katherine Pushkar from the New York Daily News, gave it a 60 score. She stated: “Let’s just get it out of the way right now: Reader, I liked it.”
Gary Goldstein over at the Los Angeles Times, gave it a 50 score, stating: “Joke-wise, there are several solid laughs (gotta love the “Pink Flamingos” line), but much of the humor underwhelms. A few sensible life lessons are tossed in for good measure.”
Neil Genzlinger over at The New York Times, gave it a 50 grade. He stated: “The film delivers the standard upbeat message about family, along with one particularly outstanding and incongruous cameo that — sorry — won’t be spoiled here.”
Kyle Anderson from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 42 grade, saying: “The Road Chip fails to even cross to the low bar of Slang & Fart movies — though, in its defense, it’s also barely a movie.”
Tom Russo from the Boston Globe, gave it a 38 score. He stated: “It just feels misguided, not clever, when John Waters is dragged out for a cameo. That’s when you know the filmmakers must realize how hopelessly they’re caught in a loop-the-loop of punchless comedy.”
Andrew Barker over at Variety, gave it a low 30 score, stating: “A mostly harmless yet plenty rough assemblage of musical numbers and rote chases that barely add up to a movie.”
Michael Rechtshaffen over at The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 30 score, stating: “No less noisy, obnoxious or just plain groan-inducing than the previous installments.”
Inkoo Kang over at TheWrap, gave it a 20 grade. He stated: “Failing almost entirely at amusement, “The Road Chip” may be most useful as a lesson for children to be more discerning about their movie choices.”
Kyle Smith over at the New York Post, gave it the bottom of the barrel “0” score, saying: “Three talking critters sing, dance and tell jokes, and I really wish they wouldn’t.
