Critics gave Mel Gibson’s ‘Edge Of Darkness’ movie really good reviews. Warner Bros. Pictures has unleashed its new Mel Gibson thriller movie, “Edge of Darkness” today,and the top movie critics seem to think it’s pretty damn good. It mostly got Bs across the board and only two Cs. It stars: Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts, Bojana Novakovic, Frank Grillo, and Gbenga Akinnagbe.
Sam Allis from the Boston Globe gave it a B-. He stated, “Gibson returns to the screen stripped of his glamour. It’s a smart way to go.” Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave it another B-. He said, “(Mel Gibson) remains a likable man with a natural screen presence.”
Michael Philips over at the Chicago Tribune gave it a B rating. He said, “conflicted but entertaining.” Owen Gleiberman from “Entertainment Weekly” rated it a B. He stated, “(Gibson’s) slow-burn fury keeps the movie going, but not enough to invest us in any justice beyond payback.”
Bill Gibron from Filmcritic.com gave it a B-. He said, “Gibson proves that he still has the chops to carry a major Hollywood motion picture.” Hollywood Reporter’s Michael Rechtshaffen gave it a B+. He stated, it was “An intense Mel Gibson performance anchors this brutally effective crime thriller.”
A.O. Scott from the New York Times gave it a C+. He said, “reasonably well executed, but its competence reeks of fatigue.” James Berardinelli from Reelviews gave it a C. He said, “this movie deserves to be dumped into theaters with little fanfare.”
Peter Travers over at “Rolling Stone” gave it a B- rating. He stated, “watching Gibson in a revenge fantasy feeds all my needs for a bloodlusting B-movie feast.” “Edge of Darkness” movie is in theaters now.
