Top Critics give ‘Cop Out’ movie less than great reviews. Warner Bros. Pictures has released it’s new comedy flick today entitled, “Cop Out,” with huge stars, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Although Tracy is very funny, the top movie critics weren’t all that impressed,claiming that it was a hit-and-miss, standard buddy cop movie that really wasn’t that funny. It got mostly Cs and Ds,but two critics liked it,and gave it a B. The movie also stars: Adam Brody, Kevin Pollak, Guillermo Diaz, Seann William Scott, Jason Lee, and Ana de la Reguera.
Wesley Morris from the Boston Globe gave it a C. He stated, “This time you get the sense that Smith just doesn’t care.” Roger Ebert over at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a C-. He stated, “your standard idiotic story about buddy cops.”
Matt Paris from the Chicago Tribune gave it a C- rating, stating, “Just because Tracy Morgan’s in it doesn’t mean it’s funny.” Luke Y Thompson from E! Online gave it a B+. He said, “While Smith’s self-acknowledged weakness with action sequences is still evident, his gift for profanity-laden comedy more than makes up for it.”
Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly gave it a C-. He said, it was “a barely satirical homage.” David Thomas from Filmcritic.com gave it a B-. He said, “While this mash-up doesn’t produce results on par with the best of the genres it draws on, it still provides plenty of laughs.”
Hollywood Reporter’s Michael Rechtshaffen gave it a C. He stated, “Any actual action’s an afterthought in this garrulous goof on the classic buddy-cop flick.” A.O. Scott from the New York Times gave it a C. He said, it was “hectic, desperately ingratiating.”
James Berardinelli over at Reelviews gave it a C rating . He stated, “It’s tough generating much enthusiasm for a motion picture that does a lot of things but none of them well.”
Peter Travers from “Rolling Stone” magazine gave it a C. He said, it was a “hit-and-miss gag machine.” Mick LaSalle from the San Francisco Chronicle gave it a D+ rating,stating, it was “a bad formula movie like every other bad formula movie.”
Finally, USA Today’s Claudia Puig wasn’t so pleased with it either. She gave it a C- rating,and stated, that it was a “foul-mouthed but not funny, bullet-riddled but not exciting, crammed with contrivances that go nowhere.” “Cop Out” movie is in theaters now.
