New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Movie Critic Reviews Revealed, And They’re Mostly Positive
Hey, Marvel Movie fans. The huge, new Marvel “Avengers: Endgame” movie officially hit theaters nationwide today, April 26, 2019, and a lot of the reviews are in from the top movie critics in the country. After skimming over a few of them, I can already see that most of them are quite positive. It got an overall 77 out of a possible 100 score over on the Metacritic.com site.
In this article, we’re going to reveal what a few of the top critics had to say. To get things started, Michael O’Sullivan from the Washington Post gave it a perfect 100 score, and he said Endgame is about acceptance and moving on.
He stated, “If “Infinity War” was about failure, “Endgame” is, ironically, all about acceptance and moving on. After 11 long years, the Infinity Saga is finally, fulfillingly over. There is no post-credit scene. But oh, what a going-away party these old friends have thrown for themselves.”
Helen O’Hara over at Empire gave it another 100 perfect score. She said Endgame features a ton of emotion and action and is very satisfying stating, “A victory lap that moonwalks through the best part of the MCU back catalogue and emphasises emotion as much as action, this is an intensely satisfying piece of blockbuster filmmaking.”
Good ole Richard Roeper who is still over at the Chicago Sun-Times also gave it a perfect 100 score. He expressed that he thinks Endgame is a serious contender for possibly being the best Marvel Universe movie to date! Those are definitely some huge words. He explained, “I’m not prepared to instantly label Avengers: Endgame as the best of the 23 Marvel Universe movies to date, but it’s a serious contender for the crown and it’s the undisputed champion when it comes to emotional punch.”
Laura Prudom from IGN gave Endgame a very good 95 score. She thinks it’s the most ambitious and emotional Marvel film to date and tied up more than a decade of storytelling. Laura stated, “Avengers: Endgame is easily the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most ambitious, emotional, and affecting film to date, somehow managing to tie up more than a decade of storytelling in a confident (and mostly coherent) climax – a hurdle that many other blockbuster franchises have stumbled over in their final runs.”
Joe Morgenstern from over at the Wall Street Journal thought this movie deserved a 90 grade, which is very good. He thinks Endgame definitely summed up the epic struggle it featured with lots of incredible action.
Brian Truitt from USA Today, gave Endgame an 88 score. He called it a triple-disc greatest hits package that features a great cover along with lots of familiar and comforting gems.
Leah Greenblat from Entertainment Weekly gave Endgame another great score with an 83 grade. She revealed that the movie actually lasts a whopping three hours ,and it delivers a lot during that time, which we would certainly expect.
Next up, there is Peter Travers from Rolling Stone. He decided to give Endgame a good 80 score out of a possible 100. He simply said that Endgame hits you like a shot in the heart. That is indeed quite powerful.
Mark Feeney over at the Boston Globe graded Endgame with a pretty good 75 score. He felt that the length of the movie was just too freaking long. However,at the same time, he felt it was quite satisfying. He stated, “The movie is ludicrously long, clocking in at three hours and one minute, but surprisingly satisfying.”
Brian Tallerico from RogerEbert.com, gave Endgame another 75 score. He thinks Endgame is unlike any movie Hollywood has ever produced! He stated, “It’s really like nothing that Hollywood has produced before, existing not just to acknowledge or exploit the fans of this series, but to reward their love, patience, and undying adoration.”
Mick LaSalle from the San Francisco Chronicle had a lot of positive things to say about Endgame. He gave it a 75 score. He said this is definitely a movie for any Marvel fan. He called it a fine spectacle and the best that money can buy!
Jake Coyle over at The Associated Press, gave Endgame a good 75 grade as well. He said it featured a feast of blockbuster movie making. It had great humor, spirit and sentimentality.
Johnny Oleksinski from the New York Post, gave it a 75 grade. He simply stated,”It’s as sprawling and pulse-pounding a fight as you’re hoping it will be.”
Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune, gave it another 75 score. He really liked the time travel element the film offered. He said the time traveling really kept the movie hopping.
Alonso Duralde over at The Wrap, graded Endgame with another 75 score out of a perfect 100. He said it delivered lots of satisfaction, but he did it in a very unique way. Here’s his quote, “It has all the fleeting satisfaction of a shot of whipped cream delivered directly from the spray can.”
Justin Chang from The Los Angeles Times, gave the movie a 70 score. He thinks the contents of Endgame was pretty effective. He said it also featured inexorable momentum. I actually had to look up the word, inexorable. It means unstoppable. So, there you go. Unstoppable momentum.
A.O. Scott from The New York Times, gave it a 70 grade. He thinks it served up some comic sparks and a few honest tears.
Peter Debruge over at Variety also gave it a 70 grade. He said it featured powerful and emotional scenes along with lots of humor that lets us know Marvel doesn’t take themselves too seriously.
Lastly, Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter gave Endgame a 70 grade. He thought the movie was a lot more dull than the previous Avengers flicks. However, he thought Robert Downey Jr.’s performance was very good, and it did a lot to save this film.
He stated, “Just when it might seem about to become too grim, Robert Downey Jr. rides to the rescue with an inspired serio-comic performance that reminds you how good he can be.”
