‘So You Think You Can Dance’ August 5, 2019 Top 5 Guys Revealed (Recap)
Hey,”So You Think You Can Dance” fans. Tonight,August 5, 2019, the final cut for the LIVE shows episode did indeed air. This time, it featured the top ten guys getting narrowed down to the final 5 guys for the LIVE shows.
All the judges: Lauriann Gibson, Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe were on hand. Each of the top ten guys were paired with an All-Star dancer from previous seasons and a choreographer outside of their own genre or style of dance.
Bailey Munoz started off the auditions. He was paired with all-star Lauren Froderman from season 7. They were given a contemporary routine from choreographer Jaci Royal.
Afterwards, Lauriann told Bailey, “You’re great.” Nigel said, “I’m shocked by how good you have become.” Mary said, “You’re incredible. You laid your soul out.” Dominic said, “It was the best B-boy performance I have ever seen.”
Next up was Ezra Sosa. He was given a hip hop routine from choreographer Luther Brown. Ezra was paired up with all-star Comfort Fedoke.
After their performance, Lauriann told Ezra, “It stunk in a good way. I enjoyed seeing what you’re capable of.” Nigel said, “You have done well when you’ve been asked to change your styles.” Mary said, “I loved the musicality.” Dominic said, “I’m blown away.”
Vlad Kvartin hit the stage next with all-star Melanie Moore from season 8. Vlad was given a contemporary routine from choreographer Mandy Moore.
After their performance, Mary told Vlad, “It was sweet and tender.” Dominic said, “I love how easy you made it look.” Lauriann said, “I don’t want you to overextend.” Nigel said, “I didn’t feel a connection between partners.”
After that, Aleksandr Ostanin was given a Cha, Cha, Cha routine from choreographer Sharna Burgess from “Dancing With The Stars.” Aleksandr was paired up with all-star Lindsay Arnold who is also now a dance pro on “Dancing With The Stars.”
After their performance, Nigel told Aleksandr, “A lot of it didn’t feel comfortable. Some of the leg action wasn’t quite right.” Mary said, “It was missing the chemistry.” Dominic said, “It was phenomenal.” Lauriann said it was good too.
Next to hit the stage was Benjamin Castro. He was given a Salsa routine from choreographer Oksana Platero. Benjamin was paired up with all-star Koine Iwasaki.
After their performance, Mary told Benjamin, “You put the seasoning on season 16. I loved the chemistry,but I thought it was a little flat-footed.” Dominic said, ” I commend you on the lifts.” Lauriann said, “I felt the power and joy more than ever.” Nigel said, “I want you to get deeper into the floor, but you did a pretty good job all around.”
Bryan “Clocks” Volozanin was paired up with all-star Jasmine Harper. Clocks was given a jazz routine from choreographer Spencer Liff.
After their performance, Mary told Clocks, “It was pretty amazing, but watch your shoulders and hands.” Dominic said, “The leaps were so bad, but I know how it feels to do bad leaps.” Lauriann said, “I expected a bit more. I didn’t feel a connection.” Nigel said, “I loved that angles were used, but I didn’t see the work put in.”
Brandon Talbott was paired up with all-star Lindsay Arnold. Brandon was given a ballroom routine from “Dancing With The Stars” choreographers Sasha Farber and Emma Slater.
After their performance, Nigel told Brandon, “Be careful of your feet. I missed the chemistry.” Dominic said, “You missed the spark.” Mary said, “I liked the body rolls and the ending.” Lauriann said, “You’re just beginning to see what you are capable of as a dancer.”
Nathan Cherry was given a contemporary routine by choreographer Talia Favia. Nathan was paied up with all-star Melanie Moore.
After their performance, Dominic told Nathan, “I wasn’t a strong believer in you until that performance.” Lauriann said, “It’s so good. You were dancing in the empty.” Nigel said, “You have done an incredible job.” Mary said, “It was intriguing. I loved the light and shade.”
Gino Cosculluela was paired up with all-star Lauren Froderman. He was given a jazz routine from choreographer Ray Leeper.
After their performance, “Dominic said, “I loved the maturity and composure.” Lauriann said, “I want it all. I’m beginning to see it.” Nigel said, You are probably the best technical dancer this year. So, you need to turn the light on.” Mary said, “I love seeing an artist emerging.”
Last, but certainly not least, Eddie Hoyt hit the stage with all-star Comfort Fedoke. Eddie was given a hip hop routine from choreographers Randi & Hef.
After their performance, Dominic told Eddie, “It was a big growth spurt from your last routine.” Lauriann said, “You’re the sauce in the pocket.” Mary said, “I want to bottle the sauce and sell it.” Nigel said, “It was a good job. It was your best performance.”
At this point, the judges deliberated and came up with their top five guys for the LIVE shows. They are: Ezra Sosa, Gino Cosculluela, Benjamin Castro, Eddie Hoyt and Bailey Munoz.
The unfortunate five guys who did not make it to the LIVE shows are: Bryan “Clocks” Volozanin, Brandon Talbott, Aleksandr Ostanin, Vlad Kvartin and Nathan Cherry.
