‘Dancing With The Stars’ September 16, 2019 Premiere Performances Revealed (Recap)
Hey “Dancing With The Stars” fans. Tonight, September 16, 2019, the big premiere of this current 2019 season did indeed air. All the judges: Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba were, of course, on hand to provide their critiques and scores.
Former Bachelorette 2019 star Hannah Brown and her pro dance partner Alen Bersten kicked off the performances. They danced a Cha, Cha, Cha routine.
Afterwards, Len told Hannah,”It was crisp, clean and confident and a wonderful way to kick off the show.” Bruno said, “You have the right attitude, and it was expressive. You need to be careful not to lose balance. Don’t ever rush the music.”
Carrie Ann said, “You have the right posture, but you weren’t quite under your feet at first, and you have great form.” Carrie Ann gave Hannah a 7. Len a 7 and Bruno a 6 for a total of 20 out of 30 points.
Next up was Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson. They did a Tango routine. Afterwards, Bruno told Kel, “I liked seeing a serious side of you, but you should not step and jump the tango, and you went on the wrong foot. However, I was glad to see a proper tango.”
Carrie Ann said, “I’m very excited even though you had timing issues and lost your grip on Witney a couple of times.” Len said, “I liked your attack and attitude. You have potential, but I wanted to see more heel leads, and the holds got loose.” Carrie Ann gave Kel a 6. Len a 5. Bruno 5 for a total 16 points.
After that, Kate Flanney and Pasha Pashkov did a Cha, Cha, Cha number. Afterwards, Carrie Ann told Kate, “I’m impressed by how clear and sure-footed you were, but you rushed the music.” Len said, “Straighten your legs to bring the hip action you need. Your attitude is terrific.”
Bruno said, “You need to be careful and finish your movements, and also to work on your hip action.” Carrie Ann gave Kate a 5. Len a 5. Bruno a 5 for a total of 15 points.
Pro basketball player Lamar Odom was up next with pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd. They did a Foxtrot routine. Afterwards, Len told Lamar, “It’s difficult when there’s such a height difference. It needed more smoothness and elegance. It lacked finesse.”
Bruno said, “You had a couple of nice lines at the beginning, but you were focusing so much on the steps that you never got into the dance.” Carrie Ann said, “I was impressed by you, especially compared to previous basketball players.” Carrie Ann gave Lamar a 5. Len a 3. Bruno a 3 for a total of 11 points.
Next, Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko hit up the dance floor to do a Cha, Cha, Cha routine. Afterwards, Bruno told Alaina, “It was like watching a sultry Southern belle. Steamy works for me. It was a polished routine, but I think something went wrong on the back step.”
Carrie Ann said, “It was a powerful cha ,cha, but you were a little loose.” Len said, “You had great rhythm, but I didn’t like the beginning when you were sitting in a chair before the actual cha cha choreography kicked in.” Carrie Ann gave Lauren a 7, Len a 6, Bruno a 6 for total of 19 points.
Next, it was revealed that super model Christie Brinkley broke her arm during one of the rehearsals with her pro dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy. So, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook replaced her. Sailor and Val did a Foxtrot number.
Afterwards,Carrie Ann told Sailor, “I was blown away by your poise and carefree spirit.” She told Val, “You’ve got a gold mine.” Len said, “You floated my boat, but you need more body contact in the hold. With a little more practice, you’ll overcome any problems.”
Bruno said, “You have the talent, and I can’t wait to see what you can achieve with proper rehearsal time.” Carrie Ann gave Sailor a 6. Lena 6. Bruno a 6 for a total of 18 points.
Next, Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson danced a Salsa routine. Afterwards, Len told Karamo, “It was disappointing with not enough hip action. It lacked rhythm.” Bruno said, “You had good looks and good style, but I agree with Len about the lack of hip action.”
Carrie Ann said, “You under-performed the routine, and you have the potential to do better.” Carrie Ann gave Karamo a 6. Len a 5.Bruno a 6 for a total of 17 points.

Len a 5. Bruno a 5 for a total of 15 points.
Mary Wilson and Brandon Armstrong danced a Foxtrot for their performance. Afterwards,Carrie Ann told Mary, “You had true elegance and true sophistication, but there were a few mistakes.” Len said, “I’m the same age as Mary, and I wish I could do a foxtrot as well as you just did.”
Bruno said, “You know how to sell it, and I was impressed by your heel turn.” Carrie Ann gave Mary a 6. Len a 5. Bruno a 6 for a total of 17 points.
Next up, was Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber to do a Cha, Cha, Cha routine. Afterwards,Len told Ally, ” I didn’t like the hip-thrusting and gyrating. I would have liked more actual cha cha, but you are a very competent dancer.”
Bruno said, “I love your sense of attack, but it sometimes gets muddled. You need to make sure you’re right on the music and not ahead of it.”
Carrie Ann said, “It was lacking balance, but you had great potential.” Carrie Ann gave Ally a 5. Len a 5. Bruno a 6 for a total of 16 points.
Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold hit the dance floor next to pull off a Salsa routine. Afterwards, Bruno told Sean, ” Your hips were set in cement, but it was strangely entertaining.”
Carrie Ann said, “You had the best fluorescent shimmy, and I appreciate your sense of fun even though you were off the beat for most of the song.” Len said, “I admire your courage.” Carrie Ann gave Sean a 4. Len a 4. Bruno a 4 for a total of 12 points.
Lastly,James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater did a Tango dance. Afterwards, Carrie Ann told James, “We have a leading man in the house. I liked everything except for needing to point your toes more.”
Len said, “It was terrific with drive and purpose.” Bruno said, “I loved how charismatic, in character and in control you were, and you had great lines.” Carrie Ann gave James a 7. Len a 7. Bruno a 7 for a total of 21 points.
