Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, July 7, 2021, another new episode of MasterChef season 11 did indeed air with judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich, and another unlucky contestant did get eliminated when it was all said and done.

Once again, they brought on another special, 4th, guest judge. It was cooking legend Michael Mina. Gordon also revealed that poor Mary Jane ended up getting sick. So, she could no longer compete in the competition.

It was revealed that the contestants were tasked with a Mystery Box challenge in this episode. They had to cook whatever type of meat was presented to them in the mystery box.

Before they got started with the mystery box challenge, Gordon and Michael cooked up an example of a nice beef dish. Gordon revealed that the winner of this competition will win a dinner in San Francisco. And, of course, the loser got eliminated.

The contestants were given 1 hour to make their beef dish. During the competition, Anne said she never cooked the meat she was stuck with. Lexi said she never cooked her dish.

Miles said he was making a T-bone steak dish. Autumn mentioned that she’s making a medium rare steak dish. Anne revealed that her dish usually takes 6 hours to make.

Matt told Aaron and Joe about his dish. They gave him some advice. They told him not to do a hard sear on the meat. That would prove to be quite critical later on.

Lexi told Gordon and Michael she was making a New York Strip dish. Michael gave her advice on which oil to use. Kelsey told Gordon and Michael about her dish. Michael told her to get enough spice in it.

Alejandro told Gordon and Michael he was a making a hanger steak dish. Abe told Aaron and Joe he was making a deep fried sweet bread steak dish. They gave him some critical advice.

Matt revealed that his steak was overcooked with just 20 minutes left. So, he had to start all over again. The judges noticed. Gordon said, “That’s not good.” Gordon and Michael went over to help Matt out a bit. They gave him some tips.

Gordon and Michael checked up on Abe. Abe seemed very positive about his dish. Anne told Aaron and Joe about her dish. She seemed positive. They gave her advice. Joe told Anne she’s putting a lot of pressure on herself with her dish.

Miles told Gordon and Michael about his dish. Joseph told Gordon and Michael he’s making a seared flank steak. They said it looks delicious with just 8 minutes to go.

Gordon mentioned that he told Anne not to try and do two plates, but she kept doing two plates. Gordon said, “I can’t understand it.”

After the hour was up, Lexi said she felt good about her dish. Anne didn’t think her dish looked pretty because she tried to make two plates. Next, the judges took a look at each of the contestants’ dishes to decide who made the bottom and top 3 dishes.

They revealed that Abe, Joseph and Kelsey made the top 3 dishes.

Abe presented a deep fried sweet bread dish. He added butternut squash puree, coleslaw and raisins to it. Gordon said, “It’s restaurant quality.” Michael said, “It’s very good. It came together nice.” Aaron said, “It was good, but it didn’t need the raisins.” Joe said, “It’s very good.” Gordon said, “It’s good quality.”

Joseph presented a shiso-wrapped flank steak. He added pickled radishes, noodles, salt, pepper and lime sauce to it. Joe said, “Conceptually, it’s the type I look for. It’s clean and bright.” Aaron said, “It was perfectly cooked. A stroke of genius.” Michael said it was nice. Gordon said, “It’s delicious. It’s the best dish you’ve cooked on the show so far.”

Kelsey served up a seared skirt steak. She added salsa roja, elote corn and avocado crema to it. Gordon said, “It’s beautiful. It has finesse. The steak is delicious. It melts in your mouth. It’s a really good dish.” Aaron said, “It’s fantastic.” Joe said, “It tasted great.” Michael said, “It was unique. Great job.”

Next, the judges decided that Abe’s dish was the best dish. Abe, Joseph and Kelsey were all safe for this round.

After that, the judges revealed that Anne,Lexy and Matt had the bottom three dishes in this episode.

Anne presented a braised beef cheek dish. She added creamy polenta and roasted root vegetables to it. Gordon said, “Visually, it looks incomplete and lacklust.” Michael said, “The dish needed to come together.” Aaron said, “It needed to be realized better.” Joe said, “This is a perfect example of someone that doesn’t know how to braise. You didn’t have the technique.”

Lexy presented a New York strip steak dish. She added roasted potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, onions and cabernet jam to it. Joe said, “The steak is a little overcooked. I don’t like the white potatoes.” Aaron said, “The potatoes are undercooked.” Gordon said it was bland. Michael said, “I liked the flavors, but it’s dry and not aesthetically pleasing.”

Matt presented a pan-seared filet mignon dish. He added porcini vermouth pan sauce, brussels sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes to it. Joe said, “This dish is something you would get from an anonymous cook.” Aaron said, “The meat is overcooked.” Michael said, “It didn’t hit any of the right components.” Gordon said, “The meat is overcooked, but the seasoning is on point.”

After all of that, the judges finally revealed that poor Matt Gagnon presented the worst dish. So, he was eliminated. His final words were, “I will just keep cooking, try to hone my skills and move forward.”

The next, new episode of MasterChef season 11 is scheduled to air next Wednesday night, July 14, 2021 at approximately 7 pm central standard time.
