Survivor March 29, 2023 Matthew Mayle Quit Due To Injury (Recap)

Hey, “Survivor” fans. Tonight, March 29, 2023, another new episode of Survivor’s current season 44 did indeed hit the air, and we saw another contestant leave by deciding to sadly quit the game due to medical reasons.

Tonight’s episode kicked off with Tika tribe’s Carolyn and Yam Yam arguing about how the last tribal council meeting played out with Sarah Wade going home. Yam Yam was quite upset about it. He told the private cams, “I’m definitely shocked and unhappy. I didn’t know Sarah was getting voted off. Carolyn is the most dangerous player here.”

Josh told the private cams, “Yam Yam tried to take me out. So, I’m glad I trusted my instinct and Carolyn.” Carolyn told the private cams, she still wants to play with Yam Yam, but she thinks Josh would be best for her game.

At the Ratu tribe, Matthew M was seen crying to Carson about injuring his shoulder on day 2, and they hugged at one point. Matthew M told Carson, “You have a big heart for a little guy.” Elsewhere, Kane expressed to the private cams that he would like to work with Carson.

At the Soka tribe, Jamie told the private cams that Matt B is just learning how to crawl in this game and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t see her as an asset. Meanwhile, Matt B and Frannie continued to grow their relationship. They both told the private cams, they would totally date each other outside of the game.

At the Tika tribe, Yam Yam tried to make amends with Josh saying, he was just going along with the tribe during the last tribal council meeting vote. Josh made a fake idol and told Yam Yam he had it. Josh and Yam Yam talked about how they’re both gay and sort of bonded over that. However, Josh told the private cams that he still wants to work with Carolyn at this point.

After all of that, host Jeff Probst showed up with the new immunity challenge. During it, the tribes were tied together. Then, they had to go through a couple of obstacle courses to get to a water bucket. Fill it with water. Then, go through another obstacle without dropping the water and fill a bucket with enough water until it was heavy enough to drop down and unleash a gate to take them to a table maze. At the table maze, they had to get three balls in a table maze hole for the win.

Ratu finished it in first place for immunity. Soka took second place for immunity. Tika lost again and had to figure out who to vote off again. They also got their flint taken away. There was another boat ride journey in this one. Since, the Ratu tribe took first place, they got to pick who took the boat ride from each tribe. Brandon from Ratu decided to volunteer himself. Then they picked Danny from Soka and Carolyn from Tika to go on the journey.

At the Ratu tribe, Matthew M’s shoulder pain was really getting to him to the point that the paramedic guy had to come. Matthew told the paramedic that his shoulder is in really bad shape ,right now, and he’s really worried about it not being able to heal properly with the lack of food he’s eating. The paramedic explained that he might have suffered a large tear when he dislocated his shoulder. So, Matthew really needed to think long and hard about whether or not he should continue at this point.

Back at the Tika tribe, Yam Yam pitched to Josh, “Carolyn is playing both you and me.” Yam Yam told the private cams, “I’m throwing Carolyn under the bus, hoping I can come back alive.” Josh told the private cams, “I want to see what Carolyn comes back with from her journey, first, before I make any firm decisions.”

Carolyn, Brandon and Danny took their boat ride journey. When they got to their destination, they were told that they are going to the sanctuary to have a big food feast. Obviously, they enjoyed that. During their feast, Danny and Brandon made a deal to work together if they made it to the merge right in front of Carolyn. They tried to include Carolyn, but she was very turned off by how much they excluded her from their conversations that she wanted no part of it. She straight up told the private cams, “I don’t want anything to do with Danny and Brandon.”

When she got back from the journey, Carolyn told Yam Yam and Josh that all she was given was a big meal and nothing else, which was true. She also filled them in on how Brandon and Danny had a major bonding session. She also mentioned that Danny and Brandon said they wanted to team up with Josh in a merge situation.

Carolyn told the private cams that she was turned off to working with Josh because she thought he was down with the whole Brandon and Danny alliance. Also, Josh continued to tell Carolyn and Yam Yam that he had a second immunity idol, which was actually fake.

Carolyn asked Josh to show it to them. Yam Yam didn’t think it looked real. Carolyn said she knew for a fact it wasn’t real because the letter that came with it was the exact same one she was shown before the last tribal council meeting. So, at this point, both Yam Yam and Carolyn knew Josh was lying through his teeth about this second immunity idol.

Josh told the private cams, “I want Carolyn out because she thinks I would team up with Danny and Brandon.” Yam Yam told the private cams, “I don’t think I can trust Josh. So, maybe I should work with Carolyn.” Carolyn was seen trying hard to convince Yam Yam to work with her again because she doesn’t want to work with Josh any longer. So, at this point, Yam Yam seemed to have both Josh and Carolyn’s trust.

Then, out of the blue, host Jeff Probst showed up to tell them that Matthew M did indeed decide to leave the game because of his painful shoulder injury. So, there was no tribal council meeting in this episode. Carolyn, Yam Yam and Josh were are all safe. Carolyn told the private cams, “I’m kinda pissed off because I really wanted to get Josh out. I want nothing to do with you, Josh.”

During his exit interview, Matthew M told the private cams, “I came out here for the journey, and it was it short. The only regret I have is that I shouldn’t have climbed that rock.” Yeah, he injured his shoulder trying to climb some rock that he didn’t even need to climb. It’s so sad.
