SWAT Season 6 May 19, 2023 Episode 22 Is The Finale. Season 7 Is Happening
Hey, “S.W.A.T.” fans. We hope you guys totally savored the heck out of tonight’s episode 22, especially since it’s the episode that has officially wrapped up this current season 6 of SWAT. That’s right, guys. Tonight’s episode 22 was the finale episode. That means you guys will not get to see another new episode of SWAT for quite some time, especially since the writers have gone on strike and backed up production, but we won’t get into all that right now. Let’s just focus on the positive.
We can officially confirm that you guys will see another new episode of SWAT at some point in the future because CBS did decide to renew it for a brand new season 7. However, we’re hearing from the folks over at Deadline.com that this new season 7 will indeed be the last season for SWAT, and it will only be half a season with just 13 episodes instead of 22.
Also, it turns out that you guys should be grateful to even get that because CBS did actually cancel SWAT at one point, but they were persuaded to uncancel it due to some immediate backlash from its dedicated fanbase. It’s reported that the fans totally rallied behind the show to get CBS to change their minds. So, that definitely does work sometimes. They say the show’s main star Shemar Moore aka Dan Hondo will be an executive producer for this final season 7.
Amy Reisenbach who is the president of CBS Entertainment and Katherine Pope, the president of Sony Pictures Television Studios addressed the fan backlash and how they listened to it during the renewal announcement stating, “We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for S.W.A.T. and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year. S.W.A.T. has aired for six seasons on CBS and garnered a devoted following.
We are pleased that we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show’s storylines and characters, which audiences deserve. Once again, we appreciate the talents and efforts of the cast, writers, producers and crew and everyone who has contributed to the success of S.W.A.T. We look forward to its return next season.”
It’s reported that CBS had canceled SWAT over some licensing fee issues with Sony Pictures Television, but they apparently got that all worked out ,now, and will give it another go with this new season 7.
According to the LIVE Nielsen ratings, SWAT season 6 averaged 5.025 million LIVE viewers per episode, and a 0.42 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics. The most recent episode 21, which aired last Friday night, March 12, 2023, managed to draw in 4.447 million LIVE viewers, and a 0.36 ratings score.
The most-viewed episode was episode 13 with 5.768 million LIVE viewers. The least-viewed episode was episode 3 with 4.435 million LIVE viewers. The highest-rated episode was episode 6 and 9. They both tied for first place with a 0.52 ratings score. The lowest-rated episode was episode 20 with a 0.30 ratings score. Season 6 actually did much better than season 5, gaining 17.34 percent more viewership.
