Tough As Nails July 21, 2023 Eliminated Paul Hamilton From Individual Competitions (Recap)
Hey, “Tough As Nails” fans. Tonight, July 21, 2023, another new episode of Tough As Nails’ current season 5 did indeed hit the air, and another unlucky contestant lost their spot in the individual competitions by the time it wrapped up.
Tonight’s new episode kicked off with host Phil Keoghan showing up again to give the contestants their next team challenge. In this one, they had to correctly fill up three gabion baskets with rocks for the win. Cheryl was the crew boss again for the Dirty Hands team. Marcus was chosen to be crew boss for the Savage Crew team.
During this challenge, the teams had to piece together the individual gabion baskets and get a passing quality check before moving on to the next one. Carolina ran into some issues with building the gabion boxes on the Savage Crew team. So, that caused them to lose some time, but Paul came over to help her out.
After they built the gabion baskets, they had to fill them up with rocks with as few gaps as possible and be able to close and lock the lid over them. Dirty hands ran into trouble with the puzzle gabion box. They couldn’t get the top to close, and that mistake turned out to be to their detriment because that allowed the Savage Crew to pull ahead them and win the competition to bring the team challenges score to 4-3. They also won $12,000 dollars. The first team to hit 5 wins gets the bonus $60,000 prize. So, the Savage Crew team will have to pull off another win to tie things up.
Next, the contestants were presented with their new individual challenge. In this one, they had to set up 20 connections for some blasting holes. The winner was awarded a $7,000 prize.
During this challenge, they had to fill up buckets with rocks. Then, run to go fill up 6 inch deep holes with the rocks. So, they had to do a lot of running back and forth with the heavy buckets of rocks. Akeela said that the buckets of rocks weighed about 60-70 pounds each. So, they did cause some exhaustion.
Ultimately, Ben finished first for the win and the $7,000 prize. Dustin took 2nd place. Todd came in 3rd. Akeela claimed the 4th spot. Jessica took the very important 5th spot to just narrowly avoid having to do the Overtime challenge. Paul and Kenji were the last two. So, they had to battle it out in the Overtime challenge to stay alive in the individual competitions.
In the Overtime challenge, Paul and Kenji had to build a Hibernaculum. To do this, they had to load a layer of logs into a pit. Then, load a layer of heavy rocks on top of the logs. Next, they had to load another layer of logs. Then, another layer of heavy rocks. After that, they had to put a gauge up over the materials.
Finally, they had to lay pieces of sod over the Hibernaculum and leave a small opening for the win. Kenji edged put Paul who got super winded. So, Paul was eliminated from the individual competitions, but he will be sticking around for the team competitions.
Paul told the private cams, “Hopefully, I made Canadians proud. I did a lot more than I thought I could after fighting cancer last year.” How do you guys feel about Paul Hamilton getting eliminated from the individual competitions in this episode? Let us know in the comments section.
