Marvel Studios Is Currently Developing New TV Shows For A Couple Of Major ‘Avengers’ Heroes
According to a new report from the folks over at Variety.com, Marvel Studios is currently looking to develop new, TV shows for a couple of major heroes that have appeared in the popular “Avengers” movies.
The heroes I’m talking about are Falcon and Winter Soldier. It’s also been rumored that Scarlet Witch and Loki might get a TV show too! In the Variety report, they said that writer Malcolm Spellman has already been hired to write for the Winter Soldier and Falcon TV shows. Both of these heroes recently appeared in the huge “Avengers: Infinity War” flick that made its way into theaters this past May 2018.
Currently, Marvel and Disney are declining to comment on this potential development. These shows are scheduled to be a limited series for the Disney streaming service. According to the Variety report, it sounds as if the Falcon and Winter Soldier will both be featured in the same show. They won’t be separate shows.
Variety pointed out that writer Malcolm Spellman has previously worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the hit Fox series “Empire.” He also wrote the screenplay for the feature film “Our Family Wedding.” He is repped by CAA and Industry Entertainment Partners.
These limited run TV shows are expected to consist of about six to eight episodes. These Disney streaming TV shows will actually be produced by Marvel Studios and its head honcho Kevin Feige. They are also expected to have pretty big budgets attached to them compared to other television projects of theirs.
They pointed out that other Marvel shows like Daredevil and The Punisher are not actually produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige. It’s reported that this latest, tv show development for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier popped up right after Netflix decided to cancel other Marvel shows: “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage.” Those two shows both stuck around for two seasons.
The two street-level heroes were part of the four-hero crew that made up the limited Netflix series “The Defenders,” which included Daredevil and Jessica Jones. “Jessica Jones” ,which I love, has fortunately been renewed for a new, third season. Marvel’s Daredevil TV show has also been given a third season renewal. So, any of you guys who are fans of Daredevil and Jessica Jones can officially rejoice!
Another Marvel show that was renewed is “The Punisher” series. It will be back with a second season in December 2018. Any of you guys who likes “Marvel’s Agents Of Shield” show, should not fret. The show has not been canceled. It’s just been pushed back to the summer 2019.
Channing Dungey who is the president of ABC Entertainment revealed exactly why they decided to bump Marvel’s Agents Of Shield to the summer 2019. Apparently, it’s so they are not forced to have to cancel it! Channing told The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s my hope that by moving it to summer where our live-same-day ratings are less important, it might be able to continue for longer.”
It’s been confirmed that Agents Of SHIELD has been reduced to just 13 episodes for its sixth season. There is speculation that season 6 will be the last for Agents Of SHIELD. However, Channing said that’s still up for debate depending on how the show performs during the summer 2019.
