MasterChef June 21, 2023 Eliminated Amanda Clark Katz (Recap)
Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, June 21, 2023, another new episode of MasterChef season 13 did hit the air tonight with judges: Joe Bastianich, Gordon Ramsay and Aarón Sánchez, and we saw the first one from the top 20 get eliminated at the end of it.
Tonight’s episode kicked off with the contestants learning they had to cook a state fair dish for their very first challenge this season. They were also told that they are cooking along with all the contestants from their same regions: West, Midwest, South and Northeast. So, the winner of this challenge not only gets an immunity pen that keeps them safe from elimination in the next challenge, they will also save their entire region from elimination in the next challenge.
The contestants were given 60 minutes to make their dish. During the challenge, a pumpkin risotto and a slopper dish was mentioned. Amanda told Aaron and Joe she’s making fish tacos. Richie told Gordon what he’s making. He told him, “Good luck.”
James told Aaron and Joe he’s making a mushroom festival burger. Joe gave him some advice and told him, “good luck.”
A New England style clam chowder dish was mentioned. A Fried codfish sandwich and chicken dish was mentioned. Kyle told Joe and Aaron that he was making a lobster fries dish. Joe had some doubts about the lobster coming out wrong, but Kyle seemed very confident about it.
A barbecue sandwich dish was mentioned. Kendal told Gordon he’s making a chicken on a stick dish. Wayne told Aaron and Joe he’s making a pumpkin risotto dish. Joe said,”That’s one of the hardest dishes to make. Good luck.”
When the time was up, the judges checked all the dishes and revealed the top 4 dishes. The first one belonged to Nina. She presented a Fried Fish Sandwich with Garlic Lemon Aioli, Potato Chips and Lemon Tahini Slaw dish. Joe said, “It looks top notch, Gordon said, “The fish was cooked beautifully.” Aaron said, “Super high marks for me.” Joe said, “I would happily pay 24 bucks for this dish.”
Reagan presented a Paneed Chicken Breast with Lemon Butter Crab Sauce, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Hot Sauce dish. Gordon said, “The chicken is cooked beautifully. The seasoning is great.” Aaron said, “This dish is great all day long.” Joe said, “Great dish. Good job.”
Kyle presented a Beer Battered Lobster Fries with Fennel Slaw & Tarragon Beer Vinaigrette dish. Gordon said, “The lobster is delicious.” Aaron said, “The lobster is crisp and rich.” Joe said, “This is about as good as it gets.”
James presented a Mushroom Festival Burger with Garlic Aioli, Arugula, Wild Mushrooms and Caramelized Onions dish. Joe said, “Perfection.” Aaron said, “Everything is in balance.” Gordon said, “It’s absolutely spot on. Well done. Good job.”
After all of that, the judges decided that Kyle had the best dish. So, he won immunity from the next challenge along with his other Midwest chefs.
Next, the judges revealed who had the worst 3 dishes. Richie was up first with his Deconstructed Cheesecake with Mascarpone Crema, Graham Cracker Crust, Berry Compote and Candied Bacon dish. Gordon said, “It is delicious, but it needed to be elevated to a whole dish.” Joe said, “You’re not even playing the game with this. It’s not a dish.”
Kendal presented a Herb Roasted Chicken Kebab with Potato Croquettes and Bacon Wrapped Asparagus dish. Gordon said, “The chicken is delicious.” Aaron said, “The croquettes are crispy, but it’s a clunky dish.” Joe said, “It’s not terrible. I would eat it, but it’s lacking.”
Amanda presented a Roasted Cod Fish Tacos with Homemade Tortillas, Fresh Green Sauce and Spicy Red Sauce dish. Gordon said, “They just look sad. The tortilla is very thick and dry.” Aaron said, “It didn’t hit the mark on multiple levels.” Joe said, “This is just not what we want.”
After all of that, the judges said that Amanda had the worst dish. So, she was eliminated. Gordon told her, “Your dish really did miss the mark.” Amanda told the private cams, “I’m very disappointed. I thought I would go a lot further. I still know I can cook, and I’m going to do that.” How do you guys feel about Amanda Clark Katz getting eliminated in this episode?
