For starters, we’ve got an official title for this new episode 19 of 48 Hours season 37. It’s called, “The Assassination of Jeff German.”
In tonight’s new episode 19, the 48 Hours team will take a deep look at a story about a Las Vegas man named Jeff German. He was a Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter and local legend. He was renowned for his reporting on infamous mobsters, scandalous politicians and murderers. Unfortunately, in September of 2022, Jeff got ambushed and stabbed to death right outside his house by an unknown culprit.
During an investigation the Review-Journal staff members found a short list of people who might have wanted to kill Jeff. One of the names that popped up was Clark County public administrator Robert Telles. German had written four articles about Telles’ alleged hostile behavior at the office.
German found out about these accusations of a toxic workplace from Clark County employees: Rita Reid, Aleisha Goodwin, Jessica Coleman and Noraine Pagdanganan. They told him that Telles harassed, bullied and physically intimidated them. They also claimed he was having an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate in the office. He also gave her power and privileges beyond her job title.
When their complaints to the county were ignored, the women took matters into their own hands by following Telles and his lover to their suspected rendezvous spot, which was a parking garage. Both Telles and his alleged lover denied they were having an affair. Jeff German’s story, including the secret video, went to print. Five days after German was killed, Robert Telles was arrested and ultimately charged with Jeff’s murder. He has pleaded not guilty.
American news reporter Peter Van Sant handled the reporting duties for this episode and case. He interviewed Robert Telles at the Clark County Detention Center.
