New SWAT Season 9 Is Not Happening. CBS Canceled It
According to Deadline.com, and their sources, CBS did indeed cancel SWAT, and we believe it’s for good this time, but who knows given its history.
Previously, CBS tried to cancel it after season 6, but then they turned around and changed their mind. Then, they said season 7 would be the last one, but then they gave it a season 8 renewal. So, while we are telling you it’s canceled right now, you just really never know. We believe this it though from what we’re being told.
The cancellation announcement came pretty early back in early March 2025. Also, Deadline said that CBS did not even entertain the idea of having renewal talks this time. They just went straight in for the kill. This series is not directly produced by CBS. So, that could have something to do with it. It costs them more money to produce shows they don’t directly own.
Executive producer and former showrunner Shawn Ryan made a statement about the cancellation stating, “It’s been an extraordinary privilege to work on S.W.A.T. for eight seasons and tell the stories of Hondo and 20-Squad.
I thank our fans, Shemar Moore, the rest of our cast, our producers, Sony Pictures Television, CBS Studios and CBS for the opportunity. Most of all I want to thank our tireless, dedicated crew who made our writers, directors and cast always look good. My greatest concern right now is for them.”
According to the LIVE Nielsen ratings, SWAT season 8 brought in an average of 3.700 million LIVE viewers per episode, and a 0.27 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics.
