‘The Wolfman’ movie gets mediocre reviews from top critics. Universal Pictures’ remake of the classic “The Wolfman” movie hit theaters today,but the top movie critics in the business weren’t all that impressed. They claimed that it didn’t pack quite the punch they were expecting. It stars: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, and Art Malik.
Ty Burr from the Boston Globe gave it a B-. He said, “The movie is by no means good but it’s surprisingly enjoyable.” Roger Ebert over at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a B-. He stated, “In any event, The Wolfman makes a satisfactory date movie for Valentine’s Day, which is more than can be said for Valentine’s Day.”
Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune gave it a B rating. He said, “Hopkins phones it in here, albeit entertainingly.” Sean O’Connell from Filmcritic.com gave it a C. He said, it was “relatively tame.”
Michael Rechtshaffen from the Hollywood Reporter gave it a C-. He said, it was “Not so much howlingly bad as it is disappointingly lifeless.” A.O. Scott over at the New York Times gave it a C-. He said, it “struggles to stay true to its pulpy B-movie roots while fulfilling the commercial imperatives of a modern, large-scale commercial entertainment.”
Peter Travers from Rolling Stone Magazine gave it a C-. He stated,“The Wolfman bites, but not — I think — in the way the filmmakers intended.” USA Today’s Claudia Puig gave it a C. She said, “There’s not much to recommend this dull, cheerless and not very scary re-imagining of the classic 1941 film.”
