Top critics gave ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ movie pretty good reviews. MGM Studios released their new comedy movie, “Hot Tub Time Machine” today, and most of the top movie critics liked it. They gave it mostly Bs across the board. However, there were a few who didn’t think it was all that great,and gave it a couple of Cs. The movie stars: John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Crispin Glover, Lizzy Caplan, Chevy Chase, Sebastian Stan, Lyndsy Fonseca, Collette Wolfe, Charlie McDermott, and Kellee Stewart.
Ty Burr from the Boston Globe gave it a B-. He said, “it’s not clear whether Cusack really wants to be here.” Roger Ebert over at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a B rating. He stated, “I wasn’t disappointed. This is a step or two below The Hangover, but occupying similar turf.”
Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune gave it a B rating. He said, “At last, a fun, idiotic movie that lives up to its name.” Peter Paras over at E! online gave it a B+ rating. He stated, it was “more than the rest of this strong cast, Corddry is the standout.”
Lisa Schwarzbaum at “Entertainment Weekly” gave it a B. She said, “a fun dip into a pool of memories that are best forgotten again once the booze wears off.” Sean O Connell from Filmcritic.com gave it a C- rating. He said, it was “disappointing.”
Kirk Honeycutt at the Hollywood Reporter gave it another C rating. He stated, it was “A potentially wry comedy about time travel plunges into a hot tub of tepid juvenilia.”
A.O. Scott at the New York Times gave it a B. He said, “It’s fun, it’s sad, and it’s kind of sad that it’s so much fun.” James Berardinelli from Reelviews gave it a C. He said, “A lot of what’s intended to be funny falls flat, in part because it’s too obvious and in part because director Steve Pink is clumsy when it comes to comedic timing.”
Peter Travers over at Rolling Stone gave it a B- rating, stating, “the warmed-over Hot Tub Time Machine forgets it takes smarts to do stupid right.”
Claudia Puig at USA Today gave it a C. She said, “The intercutting of the guys as they look in 2010 with their fleeting images from 1986 is clumsily edited, the retro references are predictable and key plot points are skimmed over.” “Hot Tub Time Machine” movie is in theaters now.
