Top critics gave ‘Shrek Forever After’ movie OK reviews. Dreamworks Animation released their new “Shrek Forever After” movie into theaters today,and the top movie critics seemed to think it was ok,overall. Some gave it Cs,and some gave it Bs. The movie stars: Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, Jon Hamm, Kathy Griffin, and Kristen Schaal.
Janice Page from the Boston Globe gave it a C rating. She said, “To see this final installment is to know: It’s time. “Formulaic family fare.” Geoff Berkshire over at the Chicago Tribune gave it a C-. He stated, it was “Closer to a middling TV special than a blockbuster movie.”
Lisa Schwarzbaum from “Entertainment Weekly” gave it a B-. She said, “Everyone involved fulfills his or her job requirements adequately. But the magic is gone, and Shrek Forever After is no longer an ogre phenomenon to reckon with. Instead, it’s a “Hot Swamp Time Machine.”
Bill Gibron from Filmcritic gave it a B- as well. He said, “For once, the creators of this creaky series try something new and fresh.” James Berardinelli at Reelviews gave it a good B rating . He stated, “Although Shrek Forever After is not as funny or as impudent is its great-grandparent, some of its comedic jabs land solid blows to the funny bone. “It’s better than Shrek 3.”
John Anderson from Variety gave it a C. He stated, “The reputed swan song for the series and its first entry in 3D, pic contains a respectable number of laughs, but also borrows its storyline from the oft-recycled “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and if that’s all its creators can do, it’s best to put Far Far Away far far away.”
