New Divergent movie delivered great action,drama,interesting plot & more. Summit Entertainment (Lionsgate) released their new action/drama flick “Divergent” into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was pretty damn entertaining as it served up a lot of great action,drama, and an interesting plotline. It stars: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zo? Kravitz, Miles Teller, Tony Goldwyn, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer,and Kate Winslet.
The new flick is set in a futuristic Chicago, people are divided into five distinct factions: Abnegation (selfless), Amity (kind), Candor (honest), Erudite (intelligent) ,and Dauntless (brave), based on their personalities. However, Beatrice “Tris” Prior ends up, finding out that she’s a Divergent, meaning she fits into more than one faction, and basically cannot be controlled.
Tris is told to hide the fact that she’s Divergent to escape getting killed. Eventually, she decides to join the Dauntless faction, where she ends up,training to become a very skilled soldier. She’s quite weak at first, but steps up to the challenge to get to the top of the pack. Unfortunately, after she solidifies herself as a Dauntless, she discovers a huge conspiracy going on.
The Duantless leaders inject a serum into each soldier, which induces a simulation, causing everyone injected to become sleep-walking,mindless soldiers,except for those who are Divergent like Tris and Four. The Dautless’ plan is to wipe out all the Divergents,so they can say in control of everything.
Once Tris learns this, she and Four eventually team up to stage an attack against the Dauntless leaders with the help of other Divergent groups who have united to fight back. However, their fight is not without much turbulence as Tris and company have to avoid numerous near-death experiences to accomplish their ultimate goal, and some don’t make it out alive. However, the conclusion is very dramatic and action-filled, and definitely sets up for the sequel, titled, “Insurgent,” which has already been confirmed.
Again, I enjoyed watching this flick for the most part. It kept me pretty intrigued for the entire runtime. I thought Shailene Woodley did a great job with the Tris role as did Four actor, Theo James. I never read the books, so I’m definitely not judging this film off that, but I found the plotline to be very interesting. I gave the movie a solid B+ grade. Stay tuned.
