In tonight’s episode, each top ten girl was teamed up with an all-star dancer from a previous season to learn a routine outside their style from a choreographer. After that, they had to perform the routine in front of the judges: Lauriann Gibson, Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe. The judges then decided who all they needed to cut to come out with our top five girls.

Contestant Mariah Russell kicked off the performances in tonight’s episode. She was given a Salsa routine by choreographer Oksana Platero. Mariah ended up dancing with all star Jonathan Platero from season 5.

After her performance, Mary told Mariah, “Your lifts are stunning. You had some real authentic moves.” Dominic said, “I commend you on being fearless.” Lauriann said, “That was the fire I was looking for.” Nigel said, “Be proud of yourself for a job well done.”

Next up was Melany Mercedes. She was given a hip hop routine by choreographers Randi and Hef. Melany was paired up with all star Fik-Shun from season 10.

After her performance, Dominic told Melany,”It was good for you, but I want you to be more grounded in your movements.” Lauriann said, “You were missing something.” Nigel agreed with Lauriann’s comments and said, “It was all on one level.” Mary said, “I’m not mad at what you did. You took a step up.”

Ashley Sanchez performed next. She was given a contemporary routine by choreographer Jaci Royal. Ashley was paired up with all star Lex Ishimoto from season 14 for this dance.

After her performance, Nigel told Ashley, “I didn’t see enough emotion. You had no strength in your arms.” Dominic agreed and said, “I felt no emotional attachment.” Lauriann said, “I felt a breakthrough, and I believe that is the first step.” Mary said, “I’m proud of you for how far you’ve come.”

Next, Anna Linstruth hit the stage with all star Marko Germar from season 8. She was given a Jazz routine by choreographer Ray Leeper.

After her performance, Nigel told Madison, “Though the low walk was weak, I felt the rest was strong.” Mary disagreed with Nigel saying, “You were present every second of the routine.” Dominic said, “You just need to continue doing what you’re doing.” Lauriann said, “I loved seeing your confidence. It was a wonderful performance.”

Next, Sofia Ghavami served up a Jazz routine with all star Marko Germar. Her routine was choreographed by Spencer Liff.

After they finished up, Mary told Sofia, “The routine was good, and I loved the Puerto Rican fire!” Dominic said, “The routine was flat, and I wasn’t blown away.” Lauriann said, “It was tough, and it showed me how capable you are.” Nigel said, “I wanted more attitude, but you did what was asked of you.”

Sumi Oshima was up next with a contemporary dance that was given to her by choreographer Talia Favia. Sumi was teamed up with all star Lex Ishimoto.

After her performance, Lauriann told Sumi, “It was unexpected. I don’t want you dancing in your head too much.” Nigel said, “The emotion was gone, and it was just a number of steps.” Mary said, “You have a lot of work to do.” Nigel also said, “We need to look back on other stuff you’ve done.”

Next up was Nazz Sldryan. She was given a hip hop routine by choreographer Luther Brown. Nazz was also paired up with all star Fik-Shun.

After her performance, Lauriann told Nazz,”I loved the confidence and sass.” Nigel said, “I loved it ,and it was tremendous.” Mary said, “You were starring in that number with Fik-Shun.” Dominic said, “Congratulations and well done.”

Sophia Pittman hit the dance floor next with all star Kiki. Sophia was given a Cha,Cha,Cha routine by choreographer Sharna Burgess from “Dancing With The Stars.”

After her performance, Nigel told Sophia, “At times, it looked uncomfortable and wasn’t strong for me.” Mary said, “I saw you think too much, and you need to fake it till you make it.” Dominic and Lauriann both agreed with Mary’s assessment.

Lastly, contestant Stephanie Sosa hit the stage with all star Robert Roldan from season 7. Stephanie was given a contemporary routine by choreographer Mandy Moore.

After her performance, Dominic told Stephanie, “The most powerful moments were the quiet ones. I want more energy out of the ends of your limbs.” Lauriann said, “I want more surrender.” Nigel said, “You are stunning.” Mary said, “I want you to dig deeper and open up more, but you’re a star.”

After all of that, the judges deliberated and decided that Mariah Russell, Stephanie Soso, Anna Linstruth, Sophie Pittman and Madison Jordan should be the top five girls to make it through to the LIVE shows.
