MasterChef August 9, 2023 Eliminated Kyle Hopkins (Recap)

Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, August 9, 2023, another new episode of MasterChef’s current season 13 did indeed hit the air with judges: Joe Bastianich, Gordon Ramsay and Aarón Sánchez, and another unlucky contestant did get sent home at the end of it.

Tonight’s new episode kicked off with the contestants learning that they would have to make replica iconic cakes that were featured on display, but they didn’t get to pick which one they wanted to replicate. They assigned that task to the winner last week’s challenge Kennedy.

Kennedy decided to make Wayne replicate a nine layer cake, Kyle a lemon cake, Jennifer a banana split cake, Kendal a Boston cream pie cake to name a few. The contestants were given 90 minutes to complete this task. The winner got immunity an pin for the next challenge, and they saved their entire region from elimination in this episode.

During the challenge, Gordon gave MD some advice about the base on her cake. Wayne told Gordon he’s feeling the pressure. Gordon told him, “You should because you’ll need to be absolutely spot on.”

Wayne ran into issues with his batter early on. He said it was way too thick at 64 minutes to go. Gordon told the other judges, “Wayne is in trouble.”

Brynn told Joe and Aaron that she felt very comfortable with her red velvet cake. She said she’s made it a bunch of times in the past. Nina got advice from Joe to go faster with her cake.

Lizzy told Gordon she’s never made her cake before. Gordon pointed out some errors she had made and told her, “Good luck.” Kolby told Joe and Aaron that he felt confident with his apple cake. They gave him some advice.

Kyle was tasked with replicating a lemon cake. He told Gordon he’s worried about the outside of it. Gordon told him, “Good luck.”

Kendal told Gordon he’s feeling good about his Boston Creampie. Then, he made a mistake, realizing his cream is way too runny. Gordon told him to just restart it at about 29 minutes left to go.

Kyle said his vanilla butter cream isn’t coming together with 16 minutes left to go. After the time was up, Kyle told the private cams, “I might be going home tonight.” Next, the judges took a look at all the cakes. Then, they revealed their picks for the top 4 cakes.

Brynn was up first. She presented a Red Velvet Cake. Gordon said, “Well done. It’s elegant.” Aaron said, “The flavor of this cake is great.” Joe said, “It’s moist, dense and has good flavor. Good job.” Gordon said,”You did a really good job. Well done. Delicious cake.”

Kolby presented an Applestack cake. Joe said, “This cake is moist. The apples are perfectly cooked. Spot on.” Gordon said, “It’s delicious. Good job.”

Wayne presented a 9 Layer Smith Island cake. Gordon said, “Visually, it’s pretty impressive.” Aaron said, “You really did what was necessary.” Joe said, “This cake is really quite good.” Gordon said, “I’m impressed. Good job. You pulled off a miracle.”

Lizzy presented a MarionBerry Cake. Joe said,”This cake has excellent balance, perfect flavor. It’s top notch.” Aaron said, “This cake is elegant and fragrant.” Gordon said, “Really good job. Well done.”

After all of that, the judges decided that Kolby had the best cake. So, he won the immunity pin for the next challenge and saved his entire South region from elimination in this challenge.

Next, the judges revealed their picks for the 3 worst cakes. Nina was up first with her German Chocolate Cake. Joe said, “It has too much liquid and moisture. It’s almost like oatmeal.” Gordon said, “It needs to be stronger for it to hold up.”

Kyle presented a Meyer Lemon Cake. Joe said, “Visually, this is a mess.” Aaron said, “Cream cheese shouldn’t be anywhere in this cake.” Gordon said, “This is a disaster for me.” Joe said, “This doesn’t even come close to what it’s supposed to be.”

MD presented a Key Lime pie. Aaron said, “It has great flavor.” Joe said, “The crust is burnt.” Gordon said, “It needs more lime. It’s amateurish.”

After all of that, the judges decided that Kyle had the worst cake. Gordon told Kyle, “Tonight, the technical ability got the better of you. I’m deeply sorry to see you go.” Kyle told the judges, “This challenge got the better of me, but it was an absolute pleasure to cook for you guys.”

Kyle told the private cams, “I came to MasterChef to be a good example for my boy. I think I did it. I’m proud of what I got to do here.” How do you guys feel about Kyle Hopkins getting eliminated in tonight’s episode? Let us know in the comments section.
