First thing’s first. We’ve got an official title for this new episode 13 of 48 Hours season 37. It’s called,”The Suspicious Death of Megan Parra.”

In tonight’s new, January 6, 2024 episode 13, the 48 Hours team will take a deep look at a story about a 29-year old Cottonport, La woman named Megan Parra. She was unfortunately found shot in the head way back on June 28, 2014.

Her parents Missy and Steve Ducote were the ones who found her. A few minutes later, her husband Dustin Parra showed up and tried to rescue her, but it was too late. She was taken off life support the next day. The investigators who initially worked this case ruled it a suicide, but Megan’s father Steve was convinced that there was some foul play involved. He told the 48 Hours team, “I knew something was wrong with this case from the start. I knew she hadn’t killed herself.”

Several months later, Steve Ducote went to Avoyelles Parish district attorney Charlie Riddle and showed him a bunch of photos from the shooting scene that concerned him. Riddle told 48 Hours, “As I looked at the photos, I kept saying, this can’t be what was found to be a suicide.”

A crime scene analyst hired by Steve Ducote discovered what he believed to be irrefutable physical evidence, blood splatter on the shorts Dustin Parra was wearing the day of the shooting. Then, on October 13, 2021, Riddle ended up presenting evidence to a grand jury to seek murder charges against Dustin Parra. It just took six minutes of deliberations for them to charge Dustin with second-degree murder. Journalist David Begnaud handled the reporting duties for this case and episode.
