Top critics gave new ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ movie mixed reviews. Walt Disney Pictures released their new action, fantasy flick “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” into theaters today, and it appears that the top movie critics were pretty mixed in their opinions of it,but one thing’s for sure,no one thought it deserved better than a B rating. It stars: Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer, Monica Bellucci, and Toby Kebbell.
Wesley Morris at the Boston Globe gave it a C rating. He said, “a movie in which spells are cast is not the same as a movie that casts a spell.” Roger Ebert at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a B-. He said, “a perfectly typical example of its type, professionally made and competently acted.”
Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune gave it another B-. He stated, “The CGI is relentless and what you might call reverse-magical. The more we’re hit with stuff, the less wondrous it becomes.”
Luke Y. Thompson at E! online gave it a B+. He said, “a rare blockbuster that should please viewers of all types.” Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly gave it a B-. He stated, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is too long, and it’s ersatz magic, but at least it casts an ersatz spell.”
Sean O’ Connell from Filmcritic.com gave it a B rating. He said, “Parents may find certain sequences loud and overbearing. That, of course, will make the kids like it even more.” Kirk Honeycutt at the Hollywood Reporter gave it a D. He stated, “No magic.”
Kyle Smith at the New York Post gave it another D. He said, “To say Baruchel is unready to be a leading man in a big-budget action adventure is an understatement.” A.O. Scott from the New York Times gave it a D. He said, “loud, mechanical and uninspired.”
James Berardinelli from Reelviews gave it a C. He said, “Perhaps it takes a movie like The Sorcerer’s Apprentice to make one appreciate the level of creativity evident in the Harry Potter series.”
Walter Addiego at the San Francisco Chronicle gave it a B-. He said, “Baruchel has something of a one-note role, and it’s not the most well-written part in movie history, but he wins us over, and is a tolerable counterpoint to Cage.”
Claudia Puig at USA Today gave it a D+ rating. She stated, “a clunky, noisy contraption.” “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” movie is in theaters now. Get your “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” movie tickets at Fandango by Clicking Here. Read more movie reviews at Yahoo! movies.
