New Johnny Depp Transcendence Movie Delivered Great Drama,Action & Plotline
Warner Bros. Pictures released their new drama/sci-fi flick, “Transcendence,” into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was excellent. It was way better than I thought it would be. The storyline was highly intriguing and unique. It also delivered plenty of drama, along with a little bit action thrown in there towards the end. It stars: Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Morgan Freeman, Cole Hauser, and Cillian Murphy.
In the new flick, character, Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp), who is an artificial intelligence researcher and part of a team of scientists, strives to develop a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence, an event which Will referred to as “Transcendence.”
Eventually, Will gets shot by an anti-AI extremist, and survives. However, doctors eventually discover that the bullet was laced with radioactive material, which will eventually shut down Will’s vital organs, causing him to die. Before Will died, Evelyn and Will’s best friend, Max Waters, upload Will’s consciousness, using the “quantum processors” of the P.I.N.N. project, allowing him to survive in digital form, stay with her, and complete the project.
After Will’s consciousness survives his body’s death, he starts requesting to be connected to the Internet, Evelyn is able to do it just before the RIFT extremist group storms in to destroy the original computer he was on. Now online, Will is able to basically take control of everything, filling up Evelyn’s bank account and eventually having her settle in a small town called, Brightwood, to set up the expansion of their project. Apparently, Will has used his enhanced intellect to create a massive fortune using high volume stock trades. Then used this money to start transforming Brightwood into a research facility to complete Transcendence.
From there, Will seemingly does a lot of good by healing wounded and ill people. However, it’s later revealed that he’s also controlling their consciousness and building an army to do his bidding. Evelyn starts to get frightened by this concept and eventually leaves to join back up with Max and the RIFT crew to come up with a virus to wipe Will out.
This leads to a big conclusion that’s filled with a ton of action and violence as major war goes down, and it also gets quite dramatic as Evelyn puts her life on the line to stop Will and all the madness in general. Again, I thought the movie’s plotline was very intriguing for the entire runtime. I never got bored by it at all.
It was so unique that I just had to see how it would end. It also had a good balance of action and drama. I usually get bored by movies with a lot of dialogue, but not when it’s as interesting as this. Johnny Depp was great as usual. I gave it a solid B+ grade. Stay tuned.
