‘Ghost Of Girlfriends Past’ Movie Review
While I’m not usually a fan of Romantic Comedies, I do occasionally like to go see them when I know they’re going to be more funny than romantic. This film was just that in every sense of the word as Matthew McConaughey plays the very funny character of Connor Mead who is a famous, womanizing photographer. In the beginning of this film, we see Connor Mead photographing one of the models who is none other than the sexy singer, Christine Milian. He ends up making out with her while he breaks up with three other girls he was dating at the same time on a conference call. It was very funny stuff. He is then reminded by his assistant that he is supposed to be the best man at his brother’s wedding.
Bitter at the whole idea of marriage, Connor doesn’t provide a very positive presence at his brother’s house. He does however joke a lot,and explains how he doesn’t believe in marriage and that love makes you weak. The night before his brother’s wedding, he’s visited by three female ghosts in Scrooge-like fashion. They go over his past to see why he is the way he is,his present, and then last but not least, his future. They show him what his future will end up being like, if he continues down the path he’s on.
After this new revelation,he’s set on changing his ways which leads to him actually saving his brother’s wedding from almost being called off. He also mends a past relationship with his old girlfriend, Jenny Perotti (Jennifer Garner) from the past which sets them in a new beginning.
My Take :While the movie had it’s share romance and cheesy parts, I didn’t really mind it because it was also so very funny. I thought Matthew McConaughey was an excellent choice for this role. I seem to like all of his films because he always sort of brings a unique “funny” to the films he’s in.It also had “Road Trip’s” Breckin Meyer in the film as Paul the younger brother. Breckin always seems to always get the more level headed character roles. He plays them well. I can’t say enough about Christine Milian. Although here role was short, she is one hell of a sexy chick. I definitely wanted to see more of her. Jennifer Garner played the role of Connors first love, Jenny Perotti who could always call him on his games. She did quite well. Jennifer is a very versatile actress. She can play the action roles and the romantic ones.
I loved the way the story and build up played out. They always kept it funny and light hearted accept towards the end when things really got heated. The classic Scrooge twist was a unique way to go about making a film like this, so I thought it was great, and again just really funny. Even the ghost were funny. I loved it.
