‘Public Enemies’ (2009) Movie Shot Up The Place
Well, not literally of course, but it sure did have a lot of shootouts. This movie starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger began with Dillinger breaking out prison to continue his infamous job as the # 1 bank robber, and public enemy # 1.
He eventually found a girl he liked named Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) to drag along into his messed up world. Meanwhile Melvin Purvis played by Christian Bale was assigned to be the leading man on the hunt to bring Dillinger down. After more banks robbed, all of Dillinger’s friends getting shot up, his girl Billie getting thrown in prison because of him, and failed attempts by Purvis to capture Dillinger. Dillinger’s fate was finally sealed by Purvis and his agents as they were able to finally close in on him with their new, advanced, tracking techniques of that time.
Johnny Depp played the character Of John Dillinger great as usual, and Christian Bale must have a hero complex because here, lately, I’ve only seen him play the good guy as John Connor in Terminator 4, Batman, and now Melvin Purvis in Public Enemies. Someone give this guy a bad guy role, already.
He actually played Melvin Purvis great, though. I thought the movie rolled along pretty good. It didn’t have to many boring moments. It could’ve been a little shorter because with a 143 minute running time, I was definitely ready to get out of there when it finally ended.
Overall it was a pretty good action, drama type movie if you don’t care about seeing a lot gun shooting and killing.
