Top critics gave new Step Up 3D movie mixed reviews. Touchstone Pictures released their new dance flick movie “Step Up 3D” into theaters today, and the top movie critics were pretty mixed on it,giving it As,Bs,Cs,and Ds,but not lower than a D. I guess it comes down to personal taste with this flick. It stars: Adam Sevani, Alyson Stoner, Rick Malambri, Sharni Vinson, Keith “Remedy” Stallworth, Kendra Andrews, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, and Joe Slaughter.

Kevin Thomas at the The Los Angeles Times gave it an A-. He said, “An exhilarating summer treat for all ages.” Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune gave it a B+. He said , “It boasts a generous exuberance and, as entertainment products go, it’s surprisingly sweet.”

Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly gave it a B. He stated, “Step Up 3D isn’t, in dramatic terms, a very good movie, but it’s the first film in a while to use 3-D as more than a marketing ploy; it points toward an original way of making a musical.”

Claudia Puig from USA Today gave it a B-. She said, “Rhythmically, athletically and energetically, Step Up 3D does not disappoint.” Michael Rechtshaffen at The Hollywood Reporter gave it a C+. He stated, “While several of the dance sequences admittedly pack a visual pop, the added dimension does the hokey scripting and some of the acting no favors by amplifying their already noticeable shortcomings.”

Justin Chang at Variety gave it another C+. He said, “This vapid street-dance soap opera boasts the series’ flashiest moves and klutziest script yet, like a brilliant acrobat with a speech impediment; it’s also one of the few 3D releases since Avatar to make compelling use of the format.”

Ty Burr from the Boston Globe gave it a D+. He said, “Watching this movie in 3-D is very much like sticking one’s head in a blender and hitting pulse.’’ Mike Hale at the New York Times gave it a D. He said, “The dancers may be skilled, but their work has no meaning in terms of the story,it’s pure spectacle, and numbingly repetitive spectacle at that.”

Kyle Smith from the New York Post gave it a D-. He said , “Step Up 3D is strictly 1D. Tired choreography and moldy hip-hop gestures accompany insipid characters.” Amy Biancolli at the San Francisco Chronicle gave it a D-. She stated, “In Step Up 3D, what’s going on is nothing.” “Step Up 3D” movie is in theaters now. Get your “Step Up 3D”movie tickets at Fandango by Clicking Here.
