Top critics gave The Other Guys movie pretty positive reviews. Columbia Pictures released their new, hilarious, comedy flick “The Other Guys” into theaters today, and the top movie critics appeared to be pretty ok with it for the most part. It got mostly As and Bs. However, there were a few Cs thrown into the mix. The movie stars: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton, Steve Coogan, Ray Stevenson, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Rob Riggle, and Damon Wayans Jr.

Owen Gleiberman from Entertainment Weekly gave it an A rating. He said, “It’s a comedy of manhood for the age of emasculation.” Michael Rechtshaffen at the Hollywood Reporter gave it an A- rating. He said, Nimbly blending comedy and action with an affectionate slo-mo nod to John Woo McKay does his best work to date here.”

Wesley Morris from the Boston Globe gave it a B+. He stated, “At its core, a perceptive satire of the interpersonal boiling points in buddy-cop pictures.” Peter Travers at Rolling Stone gave it another B+. He said, “Ferrell is effortlessly uproarious. And watching hardass Wahlberg, in his first starring shot at farce, shake his sillies out is not to be missed.”

James Berardinelli from Reelviews gave it a B+. He said, “The film’s first 15 minutes are by far the most fun and could be the best quarter-hour of any movie released this year, with Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock letting it all hang out.”

Betsy Sharkey at the Los Angeles Times gave it a B. She said, “Here the filmmakers are in fine fettle, which goes a long way to make much of the low-brow silliness and slapstick infectious.” USA Today’s Claudia Puig gave it a C+. She stated, “Like a padded Saturday Night Live sketch. What would have been very funny for 15 minutes, and pretty funny for 45, doesn’t maintain the standard over the course of a feature-length film.”

Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune gave it a C+. He said, “For a good hour, this is the picture Kevin Smith was trying to make with Cop Out.” Peter Debruge from Variety gave it a C. He said, “The laughs ultimately take a backseat to a convoluted white-collar crime story.”

Kyle Smith at the New York Post gave it a C. He said, “Starts out as a hilarious take on cop-movie cliches, then turns into Will Ferrell’s own Capitalism: A Love Story.” A.O. Scott from the New York Times gave it a C. He said, “Raises expectations that it has no real inclination to fulfill. The movie’s best bits would stand alone nicely on YouTube, or on Funnyordie.com, the comic video boutique of which Mr. McKay is an owner and where he sometimes dabbles in short-form hilarity.” “The Other Guys” movie is in theaters now.
