‘House Of Cards’ TV Show Just Got Hit With A Lot Of Really Bad News

Hey, “House Of Cards” fans. This definitely won’t be a happy article for you guys. Currently, there are multiple reports circulating about the show and it’s main star Kevin Spacey (above right) that are totally negative! There’s nothing positive going on here.

The series of bad news started when main star Kevin Spacey who plays character Francis Underwood on the show got accused of serious sexual harassment! A report from the folks over at TV Line revealed that Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp claimed that in 1986, Kevin made an unwanted sexual advance towards him.

At the time, Anthony was only 14 years old and Kevin was 26 years old. After Anthony’s claims surfaced, even more men came out with allegations against Kevin. One of the guys claimed that at age 14, he started a sexual relationship with Spacey that ended with an attempted rape!

If that weren’t bad enough, there are new reports from CNN that reveal several past and present House of Cards crew members are claiming Kevin created a very toxic work environment through alleged acts of sexual harassment and assault. Kevin’s publicist responded to the allegations with an interesting statement. He said Kevin “is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment. No other information is available at this time.”

Kevin also release a statement in response to Anthony Rapps’ allegations on his official Instagram account. In it, Kevin claims he doesn’t remember such and encounter, but he did apologize to Rapp if it did happen.

He wrote, “I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter. It would have been over 30 years ago. But, if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.

This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I chose now to live as a gay man. Shortly after these allegations surfaced, House Of Cards was hit with its next devastating news which was that the new season 6 production had been shut down indefinitely! TV Line reported that Netflix decided to halt the production.

They released a joint statement with MRC (Media Rights Capital). MRC is the production company for the show. Their statement read like this: “We have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six until further notice to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew.”

This next set of news reveals the most devastating news of all for any “House Of Cards” fan. TV Line reported that the show has indeed been officially canceled! It’s still scheduled to do season 6, but that will definitely be the show’s last season. However, even season 6 is currently in dismay since the production of it has been indefinitely suspended.

TV Line pointed out that a couple of their sources confirmed this cancellation of the show was actually in the works months ago before any of the Spacey harassment accusations came out. So, it seems it was going to get canceled anyways. However, it does seem awfully convenient that they waited until this time to announce the cancellation. And that’s all we’ll say about that.

The cancellation news came just 24 hours after Anthony Rapps allegations surfaced. TV Line pointed out that they interviewed House of Cards showrunners Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese way back in June 2017. In that interview, they asked them what a possible end date of the show would be.

At that time, they responded by saying,”It’s not entirely up to us. It’s a significant pivot at the end of Season 5. We’re saying that there’s power beyond the power. That’s a radical thing for the show to say that there’s power beyond the presidency. That’s been the be-all and end-all for five seasons. I think there’s definitely more to dig into there.”

Former “House Of Cards” creator Beau Willimon took the time to make a statement about the Spacey harassment allegations on his official Twitter account. In that statement, he said he never saw any inappropriate behavior from Spacey on or off set.

He wrote, “Anthony Rapp’s story is deeply troubling. During the time I worked with Kevin Spacey on “House Of Cards” I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behavior on set or off. That said, I take reports of such behavior seriously, and this is no exception. In the latest reports of the show, TV Line revealed on November 3,2017 that Kevin Spacey has been fired from the show! He is the main star. So, that’s very shocking and devastating both for him and the show. Apparently, Netflix wants absolutely nothing to do with him. They made sure to clearly and bluntly point that out in their official statement.

In it, they said, “Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.”

In light of the Kevin Spacey firing, a petition has been started on Change.org to replace Spacey with actor Kevin James. According to the Huffington Post, the petition was started by a man in the Netherlands named Robbie Pyma.

In his petition, Robbie gave his reason as to why Kevin should replace Spacey. He thinks Kevin could elevate House Of Cards to the global level of a “Game Of Thrones” show.

He stated, “Losing a great show is hard, no matter the circumstances. However with hardship comes the opportunity for a great show to become one of the greatest television shows of all time. I think Kevin James can elevate ‘House of Cards’ to a globally adored franchise like ‘Game of Thrones’ and make the entire world focus on one of the most important Netflix Original series there is.”

In that report, the Huffington Post reported that the petition was signed by nearly 18,000 people at the time. In another report from NME.com, they said the petition had been signed by 28,000 people. So, it sounds like a lot of fans are getting behind this petition. Actually, we just checked the petition today, November 8,2017, and it’s currently got a total of 36,832 signatures.

We don’t know if this petition will ever hold any real merit. But, if it does, Kevin James has a lot of supporters so far. TV Line reported that Netflix is currently considering multiple spinoff ideas. One of them is focused on Frank’s ruthless chief of staff Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly.

As for the upcoming season 6 of House Of Cards, it was originally reported that it was scheduled to release sometime in 2018. Unfortunately, with the production getting halted indefinitely, it’s quite possible that the release date will get pushed back even further. It just depends on how long the production will get suspended.

We can imagine that the producers are now having to deal with how to write Spacey’s character out, and how they will change up the storyline. We’ll just have to wait and see how all that plays out.

We’ll definitely be looking for new reports on the situation. Actually, we have a new report from the New York Daily News that reveals the “House Of Cards” cancellation is actually affecting a big chunk of the economy for the city of Baltimore,Maryland!

Apparently, the success of the show employed a lot of film industry workers and local businesses. The articles says they thrived off of the success of the series. Michael Piekutowski who is an electrician on the set of House Of Cards said to CNN, “There are local businesses that are benefiting from a major studio production, like caterers, dry cleaners, transportation companies.”

The report also reveals that season 4 employed nearly 2,700 cast, crew and extras from Maryland, and the production bought or rented goods or services from almost 2,000 Maryland vendors including fast-food restaurants, clothing stores and auto parts stores. This is according to the Maryland Film Office.

The state of Maryland proudly calls itself the home of “House Of Cards.” It earned more than $128 million dollars in 2015 from Season 4’s production. Michael Piekutowski went on to state that the House Of Cards production schedule and pay helps carry a lot of workers through the months that it’s not filming.

He told them, “One of the nice things about ‘House of Cards’ is it shoots from fall till spring and fills in the gap for people through the winter. We are all like squirrels, in a way, throughout the year and try to get as much money in the spring and summer and live off that in the winter.”

One of the crew members Jena Richardson revealed she would actually have to move out of Maryland if the House Of Cards production is shut down! She told CNN Money, “People in the film industry go where the work is. If the show leaves, that means that a lot of my friends who have become my set family will have to leave to find work as well. So, if we can keep the work here, then everybody can stay here and provide for themselves and their families throughout the holidays.”

Roger Voter who is a 27 year old tech assistant for the show revealed that the cancellation of it would be a huge detriment. He stated, “It’s the most detailed TV show. More than what we have usually in the local Baltimore area, like unique small jobs like camera operators, operating booms, prop jobs. Having Baltimore locals being trained in these jobs under the masters of LA is great for their careers.”

So wow! This is definitely turning out to be a very huge deal than just a TV show getting canceled. It’s going to put a lot of people out of a job.
