A Former Grey’s Anatomy Favorite Could Possibly Return At Some Point
According to a new report from the glamour.com news team and a couple of other news outlets, one of the former ladies of ABC’s hit drama series, “Grey’s Anatomy” revealed that she isn’t opposed to the idea of returning to the show even though she did leave of her own volition last year.
That former Grey’s star is Sara Ramirez who played character Callie Torres for 10 straight years from 2006 to 2016. Apparently, Sara did a new interview with the folks over at Entertainment Weekly. During her interview, she told them about a conversation she had with producer Shonda Rhimes about possibly returning. She said that they’ve definitely agreed to keep the conversations going.
She stated, “When Shonda Rhimes and I last spoke, we agreed to keep the conversations going, and she knows I’m open to keeping those conversations going.” Does Sara Ramirez regret leaving when she did? Apparently not. They asked her if she thought it was the right decision, and she replied with,”Absolutely.”
The last time we saw Sara Ramirez/Callie Torres in action was way back in the season 12 finale episode which aired in May of 2016. During that episode, Callie made up with her ex-wife and gained permission to see their daughter. She then moved to New York to live with her girlfriend.
At that time, Sara released a statement which contained her official exit announcement. She said, “I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy and ABC, but for now I’m taking some welcome time off.”
Since then, she got involved in a lot of off-set activities which included participating in an ACLU-run in Austin, Texas. A rally against antitrans legislation. She spoke about intersectionality at the Equality March in D.C. She accepted a Trailblazer Award from the LGBT Center in New York.
She also got back to acting with a role on CBS’ hit drama series “Madam Secretary.” She played a character named Kat Sandoval on that show. She also did some voice-over work for TV shows: “Sofia the First” and “Elena of Avalor.” Her character was Queen Miranda in both of those shows.
So basically at this time, there is no official confirmation that Sara Ramirez’s Callie Torres will return to Grey Sloan Memorial. However, there is a little bit of hope that she might. We’ll obviously just have to wait and see if any of those Shonda Rhimes and Sara talks result in anything.
In related Grey’s Anatomy news, the show’s current season 14 is on a long two month break right now. They chose episode 8 to be their midseason finale episode. It left off with a very shocking event involving Jo and her violent ex-husband Dr. Paul Stadler played by actor Matthew Morrison. Hardcore fans were very upset to hear that they would have to wait a whole two months to see what is going to happen with that situation.
The next, new episode 9 is currently scheduled to hit the airwaves on Thursday night, January 18,2018. So, be sure to mark that date down on your TV calendars if you haven’t already. Unfortunately, ABC still hasn’t released the new press release storyline teasers for episode 9.
However, we were able to get a few details about the episode from the show’s Wikia page. They revealed that episode 9 has been titled,”Four Seasons in One Day.” Andy Reaser wrote the script, and it was directed by Bill D’Elia.
Episode 9 is also going to feature guest stars: Matthew Morrison as character Dr. Paul Stadler, Jeanine Mason as character Dr. Sam Bello and Bethany Joy Lenz as character Jenny. So, we definitely know that we’ll see that intense Jo and Paul situation pick up where it left off.
The guest list also confirms the arrival date of the new Jenny character we reported on a few weeks back. She’s being played by former CW “One Tree Hill” Haley James Scott actress Bethany Joy Lenz. When we lasted reported on her, we didn’t know when she was due to show up. Now we do. Unfortunately, we still have no idea what Jenny will be up to because the producers are keeping that information under tight wraps at the moment.
We might found out some more details about her in the coming weeks. But right now, it looks like we may just have to wait until the episode airs to see what Jenny is all about. We do know she’s just a guest character. So, we’ll see her maybe once or a few times.
As for Paul, we definitely know he will have a big role because his portrayer Matthew Morrison revealed at least that much information to one of the other news outlets over this past summer. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see what kind of drama he brings to the Grey’s Anatomy season 14 table.
As for Jeanine Mason’s Sam Bello character, she’s a new intern that was introduced earlier in the current season 14. She appeared in episodes 4’s “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head.” Her first scene featured her coming in for an interview at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to be considered for an internship. During her interview, she said she’d read all about the fire and revealed that Stephanie Edwards was her hero. She didn’t realize they’d already done the remodel of the hospital.
Sam also appeared in the 6th episode of this season which was labeled , “Come on Down to My Boat, Baby.” During that episode, Sam showed up at the new intern mixer at the hospital. Richard gave a speech about them starting their work as doctors. Meredith Grey was celebrated as she learned she had been nominated for a Harper Avery Award.
The new interns then walked around the hospital in awe that they worked there and so did Meredith Grey. In the hallway, Sam was shocked to see Andrew and learn that he worked there. Sam also has a romantic relationship with season regular character Dr.Andrew Deluca played by actor Giacomo Gianniotti.
Another recent Grey’s Anatomy article from the folks over at TV Line revealed more details about characters Maggie and Jackson’s budding interest in each other. They talked to Richard Webber’s portrayer James Pickens Jr. to get his take on what Richard he thinks of this situation.
James apparently thinks something major is about to happen with that storyline. He told them when asked about it, “I’m trying not to think about that! I don’t want to divulge too much, but I think she’s setting it up to make a real hard left turn with this thing here. They’re not blood-related so there’s nothing incestuous about it. It’s just that the dynamic is funny. It’s almost like double jeopardy or something.”
TV Line also got to speak with Maggie portrayer Kelly McCreary about all this. She said that right now they’re just in the beginning stages. She stated, “It’s a lot for her to digest. She and Jackson just met, really. They’re still getting to know each other.”
After that, Kelly revealed that she thinks Maggie and Jackson could possibly win over the Grey’s Anatomy audience with love. She stated, “Historically, the most beloved relationships on Grey’s are the ones where the characters really challenge each other and push each other’s buttons, and they always come back to the love.
Those are the relationships that people are the most invested in. So, if Jackson and Maggie can find a way to help each other be the best people and doctors. And, in Jackson’s case, parent, I think the audience will root for them.”
