The contestants were given 90 minutes to make their dessert. During the challenge, Tay said, “I’m so ready for this dessert challenge.”

Autumn said she was making a lemon tart. Abe told Gordon and Sherry he was making a Pomegranate Tart. They gave him some advice about the eggs and other things.

Alejandro told Gordon and Sherry he was making an old school Georgia apple pie. Gordon and Sherry gave him advice. They said he needed to get it in the oven already, and that he’s not focused on the right thing. Apparently, he was too focused on just getting the ice cream part right at the time. The ice cream was a side dish to the pie.

Lexy told Aaron and Joe that she’s a making a Molten Lava Cake, and she’s never made it before. Tay told Gordon and Sherry that he’s making a upside down pineapple cake. They gave him some advice about tweeking it a little.

Matt told Aaron and Joe he’s making a chocolate flourless cake. Joe and Aaron warned him about using black garlic. Matt swore that it wouldn’t effect the sweetness of the cake.

Annai told Gordon and Sherry that’s she’s making a no-bake, cold, Avocado cheesecake. Autumn told Aaron and Joe about her lemon tart dessert.

With less than 60 minutes left in the challenge, Lexy revealed that she had to start all over with her dessert!

Anna told Gordon and Sherry she’s making a Olive Oil Rosemary Cake. She also told them, “I’m not a baker, but I’m here to learn.”

At one point, the judges mentioned that Abe’s Pomegranate Tart seems like a very risky dessert to try and make.

Suu told Aaron and Joe she’s making a traditional cake with rum. Aaron and Joe gave her some advice.

Michael told Gordon and Sherry he’s making a cake with toasted pine nuts. Gordon and Sherry told him, “Don’t destroy the texture.”

After the 90 minutes was over, it was revealed that Annai left the base plate on her dessert. So, that was not good.

Abe said he was nervous that the judges would hate his Pomegranate Tart dish. He mentioned that the curd didn’t set correctly.

At this point, the judges walked around to take a look at everyone’s desserts. Then they revealed that the top 4 dishes belonged to Lexy, Tay, Michael and Anne.

Lexy presented her Molten Lava Cake dish first. She added some Macerated Berries and White Chocolate Drizzle to it. Gordon said, “Visually, it’s stunning and delicious. You have the makings of a great chef.” Sherry said, “Well done.” Aaron said, “It has proper texture. It’s beyond reproach.” Joe said, “It’s a restaurant-quality dessert. Good job.”

Next, Tay presented his Pineapple Upside Down Cake dish. He added Cherry Compote and Lemon Zest Whipped Cream to it. Sherry said, “It’s restaurant style. I would put it on the menu.” Gordon said, “It’s delicious.” Aaron said, “It’s almost too sweet, but you pumped the breaks in the right way. It’s a soulful dessert.”

Anne presented her Olive Oil Rosemary Cake dish. She added Blueberry Compote and Whipped Crème Fraiche to it. Joe said, “Visually, it’s great. You executed.” Gordon said, “The cake is delicious. Spot on. Well done.” Sherry said, “It’s delicious, but it kinda looks gummy though.” Joe said, “It’s restaurant quality.”

Michael presented his Cannoli Cake dish. He added Chocolate Espresso Ganache, Toasted Pine Nuts and powdered sugar to it. Gordon said, “It’s beautifully done. It pops.” Sherry said, “I like the fudgy frosting.” Gordon said, “I like the crisp chocolate, but you need to toast the pine nuts a bit more.” Aaron said, “It’s really beautiful. It has some nostalgia to it.” Joe said, “You did a really good job.”

After all of that, the judges decided that Tay’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake dish was the best dish of this competition. So, he won the $5,000 dollars worth of new kitchen equipment from Breville. Anne, Tay, Michael and Lexy were all safe from elimination in this round.

Next, the judges revealed that the bottom three dishes belonged to Abe, Annai and Matt.

Abe was up first with his Pomegranate Tart dish. He added Pistachio Brittle and Italian Meringue to it. Gordon said, “It’s not set, but the pastry is delicious.” Sherry said, “It’s not enjoyable to eat.” Joe said, “It’s a bit immature.” Aaron said, “The execution was flawed.”

Annai presented her Avocado “no-bake” Cheesecake dish. She added Dragon Fruit Cream and Mango Sauce to it. Gordon said, “I’m shocked that the base is still stuck underneath it. The base is uncooked. You should’ve baked it.” Sherry said, “It was a recipe for disaster. It looks more like a dip than a cake.” Aaron said, “Bad execution.” Joe said, “It was a disappointment.” All the judges really gave her a hard time for not actually baking the cake.

Matt presented his Black Garlic Chocolate Flowerless Cake. He added Spiced Ganache, Whipped Cream, and Ginger Raspberry Coulis to it. Gordon said, “I’m concerned about the garlic. Will it make the most delicious chocolate cake on the planet? It taste very rich, but I’m getting the garlic. It isn’t working. It’s bitter.” Sherry said, “This doesn’t sing for me.” Aaron said, “Fortunately for you, the chocolate was able to squash a little bit of that garlic flavor.”

Next, the judges decided that Annai’s Avocado “no-bake” Cheesecake dish was indeed the worst dish of this competition. So, poor Annai Gonzalez was sadly eliminated. She said, “It was a wonderful experience. I plan to use this experience to propel me further in life.”
