We’ve got a preview for tonight’s new episode.

Please note: The editor put in a special note for tonight’s episode saying that this episode will contain segments that have aired in the past, but they’ve been updated for this episode.

We did get an official description for tonight’s new episode from CBS’ official, March 12, 2023 episode press release. So, that’s what we’ll be working with for this preview session. Let’s get into it.

The first thing we need to let you know is that tonight’s new episode does have an official title. It’s called, “60 MINUTES PRESENTS: TALES OF FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS.”

The first description reveals that the 60 Minutes team will present a segment titled, “SURVIVAL OF THE FRIENDLIEST.” In it, journalist Anderson Cooper will do an in-depth report on the links between dog and human evolution. It will explore how dogs diverged from wolves and became more friendly via “friendliness mutations.” These mutations are the same genes that are deleted in some humans. That condition is called, “Williams Syndrome.”

CBS’ official description for this “Survival Of The Friendliest” segment tells us, “Anderson Cooper reports on the links between dog and human evolution and explores how dogs diverged from wolves and developed what one geneticist calls “friendliness mutations.” Those mutations are found in the same genes that are deleted in some people with a condition called Williams syndrome. Denise Schrier Cetta is the producer.”

An alternate description reads like this, “Exploring how dogs diverged from wolves and became friendly; doctors study and treat similar cancers in pet dogs and people; a program at a Wyoming minimum-security prison has inmates train wild horses.”

The second description reveals that Anderson Cooper will do another segment titled, “COMPARATIVE ONCOLOGY.” During it, Anderson will deliver a report that has found some promising genetic research in dogs and people in regards to cancer. They’re studying how to treat similar cancers in pet dogs and humans. These studies could provide fast, life-saving treatments.

CBS’ description for this “Comparative Oncology” segment reads like this, “Anderson Cooper reports some of the most promising genetic research in dogs and people involves cancer. In a growing field called comparative oncology, scientists, physicians and veterinarians team up to study and treat similar cancers in pet dogs and people. They are using what they learn to speed potentially lifesaving treatments to both species. Denise Schrier Cetta is the producer.”

The 3rd and last description reveals that a segment titled, “WILD HORSES” will be featured. During it, journalist Sharyn Alfonsi will pay the Wyoming Honor Farm a visit. It’s helping out with the wild horse population via a program that enlists inmates to train the horses. Apparently, the wild horse population is three times what it could be, and could grow even larger if something isn’t done about it.

CBS’ description for this “Wild Horses” segment reads like this, “Sharyn Alfonsi visits the Wyoming Honor Farm, a state-run minimum-security prison in the middle of horse country doing its part to help with the wild horse population through a program where inmates train the horses. Federal land managers say the number of wild horses roaming public land is nearly three times what it should be, and if left unchecked, their population can double every five years. Michael Karzis and Katie Kerbstat are the producers.”

CBS’ press release confirmed that 60 Minutes is new tonight, March 12, 2023, and it’s scheduled to hit the air at approximately 6 pm central standard time.
