American Idol April 9, 2023 Top 24 Finalist Part 1 Revealed (Recap)
Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, April 9, 2023, another new episode of American Idol’s current season 21 did indeed air. It featured the results of which contestants advanced through during the Showstoppers part 1 episode. Celebrity judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were on hand again. The 55 remaining contestants performed with a LIVE band in front of a LIVE audience for the first time this season, and a lot of them got cut this round because only the top 24 went through to the next round.
Tonight’s episode kicked off with Kaeyre singing, “River” song by Bishop Briggs. Afterwards, Lionel said, “Kaeyre stepped out of the lounge and into being a lead singer.” The judges decided to send Kaeyra through to the top 24.
Warren Peay sang, “Whipping Post” song by Allman Brothers. Afterwards, Luke said, “You have cleared yet another hurdle.” Warren made it through to the top 24.
Nutsa sang, “Proud Mary” song by Tina Turner. Afterwards, Katy said, “We didn’t put you in the Top 24.You did.” Nutsa made it through to the top 24.
Aidan Boyer sang, “Viva La Vida” song by Coldplay. Afterwards, Lionel said, “You have a definite place in show business, but your vocals aren’t strong enough for this competition. I think you should start songwriting and producing. I want to write a song with you.” Aidan Boyer was eliminated.
Michael Williams sang, “Angels Like You” song by Miley Cyrus. Afterwards, Luke said, “I kept losing him in the backgrounds.” Katy said, “I think you chose the wrong song. However, your voice is controlled. I didn’t get to hear your unique abilities in this latest performance. We have to let you go into the top 24. We really believe in you.” Michael made it through to the top24.
PJAE sang, “I Want You” song by Luke James, and Malik sang, “Can We Talk” by Tevin Campbell. Afterwards, they had to do a sing off. In it, they both had to sing the same song, which was “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish. Afterwards, the judges decided to send both PJAE and Malik through to the top 24.
We Ani sang, “Ain’t No Way” song by Aretha Franklin. Afterwards, Lionel said,”You’re a star.” We Ani made it through to the top 24
Zachariah Smith sang, “Don’t Stop Me Now” song by Queen. Afterwards, Katy said,”Your voice is one of the most interesting voices in this competition.” Zachariah made it through to the top 24.
Kaylin Hedges sang, “Kiss from a Rose” song by Seal. Afterwards, Lionel said, “It comes down to experience and timing. The Platinum ticket didn’t help her.” Kaylin was eliminated.
Tyson Venegas sang, “Cuz I Love You” song by Lizzo. Afterwards, Katy said, “We don’t think you are destined for the Top 24. It’s more like the Top 10.” Tyson made it through to the top 24.
Haven Madison sang “Bird Set Free” song by Sia. Afterwards, Luke said,”I think she’s a singer who will go very very very far.” Haven made it through to the top 24.
Fire Willmore sang “Mercy” song by Duffy. Afterwards, Luke said, “We have learned from you. We’re so proud of you. Take that home and build on that.” Fire got eliminated.
Lucy Love sang, “Flying Without Wings” song by Ruben Studdard. Afterwards, Luke said, “She reminds me of Lady K from last season.” Lucy made it through to the top 24.
Paige Anne sang, “California Dreaming by Mamas and Papas” song, and Megan Danielle sang, “Always Remember Us This Way” by Lady Gaga. Afterwards, they had to do a sing off. They both sang, “Go Easy on Me” song by Adele. Afterwards, we got the “To Be Continued” message. So, we’ll see things pick up where they left off in tomorrow night’s new part 2 episode.
