Survivor April 12, 2023 Voted Off Matt Blankinship In Major Twist (Recap)
Hey, “Survivor” fans. Tonight, April 12,2023, another new episode of Survivor’s current season 44 did indeed hit the air, and we saw another unlucky contestant bite the dust due to another big twist at the end.
Tonight’s new episode kicked off with Yam Yam telling the private cams, “The last tribal council sucked. I almost didn’t make it, but at the end of the day, Josh went home. I’m scared that my name is an option. I’m going to try to make some friends.”
Matt B told the private cams that he’s elated that he can finally vote at tribal council again, and he also has an idol, (which was actually fake). In fact, Matt B eventually got to thinking and realized he has a fake idol after talking with Yam Yam and Brandon about it. During their talks, he realized that Danny actually set him to find a fake idol.
Danny told the private cams that Lauren’s gotta go next, and he campaigned to Kane for her to go. However, Kane told Matt and Frannie he wants to get Danny out. They seemed to agree and brought Carson in on it. Then, Carson told Carolyn about it saying, “I think we’re in a really good spot.”
After all of that, host Jeff Probst showed up with a new immunity challenge that featured a bunch of twists. In this one, everyone was split up into two teams of 5. This was an endurance challenge that involved them having to stand on a narrow beam while balancing a ball on a pole. The last one standing from each team won immunity. However, the person that outlasted both teams aka overall, won immunity for their whole team. However, the winning team couldn’t vote at the next tribal council. Only the losing team got to vote.
They drew for who would play because one of them had to sit out. Carson drew a non-color. So, he had to sit out, but he got to pick which team he thought would win. If that team won immunity, he won it too. He chose the orange team, which consisted of: Carolyn, Kane, Heidi, Frannie and Danny. The purple team consisted of: Lauren, Jamie, Brandon, Yam Yam and Matt B.
There was also a reward prize for this competition, which was: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, potato chips and ice tea. During this competition, Frannie won immunity on the orange team. Brandon won immunity on the purple team. However, Frannie just edged out Brandon to outlast everyone, which means her entire orange team won immunity. That means the purple team of: Lauren, Jamie, Brandon, Yam Yam and Matt B had to figure out who to send home at the tribal council meeting.
Frannie told the private cams that she’s worried that her best friend in the game Matt B could go home since he’s on the losing purple team. Carolyn echoed that same thing about Yam Yam. She didn’t want Yam Yam to go home..
Matt told the private cams,”I’m feeling very vulnerable because all my allies are on the winning orange team.” Brandon pitched Yam Yam’s name as a target. Lauren told Yam Yam, “I want Matt out so we can break up Frannie and Matt’s alliance.”
The Orange team got a note that told them there’s a new advantage in a birdcage. So, they went searching for the correct key to open the birdcage. Heidi found it first, and she won a “Control A Vote” advantage. It allowed her to control the vote of one player at the tribal council meeting, and it just so happened that it was only good for this particular tribal council.
Heidi explained that she can tell a player to vote for who she tells them to vote for, which gave her a little power in this vote even though she was on the winning team that couldn’t vote.
Matt told the private cams he doesn’t have his bag to play his shot in the dark. He told Yam Yam he wants to get Lauren out. Meanwhile, Jamie, Brandon and Lauren talked about splitting the votes between Yam Yam and Matt in case Matt has an immunity idol.
At the orange team, Heidi told Frannie about her control a vote advantage. Frannie obviously suggested they use it to help Matt out. Eventually, Heidi got around to also talking with Danny, Carolyn and Kane about how to use her control a vote advantage. After getting suggestions, Heidi told the private cams that Matt might be a bigger threat since he’s with Frannie, and she has a sweet spot for Yam Yam. “I think I could work with Yam Yam,” she said.
At the purple team tribal council meeting, Yam Yam pitched that Matt is with a lot of the people on the orange team. “If you keep him, he goes back to them. If you keep me, I’m sticking with you.” Jamie said, “That was a good argument.”
Heidi eventually revealed her control a vote advantage and, she used it to tell Lauren to vote to get rid of Yam Yam. However, Lauren said she had to a two-votes advantage. So, she still had an extra vote that she could use for who she wanted to vote off.
After all of that, it was revealed that Yam Yam got 2 votes, and Matt received 3 votes. So, with the 3 votes, Matt B was indeed voted off. He left with a smile on his face and congratulated Frannie again on the way out.
Matt told the private cams, “Sometimes, that’s just how the cookie crumbles. I’m so proud of you Frannie for winning, and I don’t want you to blame yourself for what happened.” How do you guys feel about Matt Blankinship getting voted off in tonight’s episode of Survivor season 44?
