Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, May 12, 2024, another new performances/results episode for American Idol’s current season 22 did indeed hit the air, and we found out who made the top 3 at the end of it.
The theme for tonight’s episode was Disney Night. So, all of the final 5 contestants only sang songs from the Disney catalog. They sang a total of two songs. The celebrity judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were all on hand one again to serve up their praises and critiques.
Tonight’s new episode kicked off with the judges along with host Ryan Seacrest hitting the stage to sing, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
Then, Abi Carter kicked off tonight’s performances by singing, “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. Afterwards, Luke said, “Way to embody that character. That was one of your best performances.” Lionel said, “Your voice is custom tailored for Disney songs.” Katy said, “I loved your big note and falsetto. Your wish is coming true.”
Triston Harper sang, “Almost There” from Princess and the Frog. Afterwards, Lionel said, “You are Mr. Entertainment. I love your stagework. You make the audience love you more when you are just having fun.” Katy said, “You’re more than almost there. You’re there.” Luke said, “You’re a charmer. Please don’t change.”
Emmy Russell sang, “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus from Hannah Montana: The Movie. Afterwards, Katy said, “I believe this song is so true for you. I think you’re conquering your fears. Your miracle is on the way.” Luke said, “I love that you’re gaining confidence and attempting notes you would not have earlier.” Lionel said, “Your voice is your sound. The complete makeup of who you are. You’re a stylist.”
Jack Blocker sang, “Nobody’s Fool” by Brad Paisley from Cars 2. Afterwards, Luke said, “You’ve got great swagger. You’re like a Fred Astaire. I’m amazed at how you’ve opened up.” Lionel said, “You recovered dropping the mic. I dub you “Jack Swagger.” Katy said, “I admit I treated you like a real step sister at first, but if you win, it will be a real Cinderella story.”
Will Moseley sang, “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” by Chris Stapleton from Toy Story 4. Afterwards, Lionel said, “A cracking voice makes a country singer believable.” Katy said, “I did notice a little fumble, but you came back from it and delivered the big note.”
At this stage, the contestants sang their second round of songs. Emmy Russell kicked it off by singing, “Carried Me With You” by Brandi Carlile from Onward. Afterwards, Katy said, “The chorus opened you up in the right way. I love when you’re reaching for a hand.” Luke said, “You’re getting more comfortable moving around. Be proud. The sky’s the limit.” Lionel said, “We even get nervous before walking out on stage. You blew it away tonight.”
Triston Harper sang, “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts from Cars. Afterwards, Luke said, “You’re going to be on a tour bus some day.” Lionel said, “You just took this all the way.” Katy said, “I think this is one of your best vocal performances so far. I felt the conviction. You took the chorus up a gear.”
Abi Carter sang, “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac from Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Afterwards, Lionel said, “I was moved by your conversation with your mother. Way to strike a pose. You did a great job.” Katy said, “I was moved. You’re owning it. You’re showing us new layers every day.” Luke said, “I liked your confidence and connection.”
Jack Blocker sang, “Space Oddity” by David Bowie from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Afterwards, Katy said, “You keep on surprising all of us. Everyone is glued to the television. You are Jack.” Luke said, “That was an interesting song choice. I loved your take on it.” Lionel said, “I think you’re actually having fun. Wait until that career blossoms.”

Your vocals are a real machine.” Lionel said, “Way to play the stage. That was incredible.” Katy said, “That’s the best you ever sounded. You had the attack, the growl and grit.”
