Josh stated of The Walking Dead franchise, “The use of the word ‘franchise,’ we don’t take lightly. It’s not a sloppy or casual word. We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise.”

The folks over at Variety.com pointed out that Angela Kang just recently landed the top showrunning gig just before season 9 started. Before that, she was just a writer for the show. The episodes she wrote are: Season 2’s “Judge, Jury, Executioner,” Season 4’s “Still,” and Season 7’s “The Cell.” She also co-wrote the Season 4 finale episode, which was reportedly one of the highest-rated episodes in the show’s history.
Let’s get into the season 9 numbers for The Walking Dead. According to the folks over at TVseriesfinale.com, The Walking Dead season 9 viewership fluctuated between 6 million and 4 million viewers an episode. The most viewers came at the beginning of the season and then slowly fell off. The ratings for the 18 to 49 year old demographic fluctuated between 2.49 and 1.48. Those also fell off later in the season
The season 9 premiere episode 1 drew in 6.076 million viewers, and it scored a 2.49 for the ratings. Ever since then, it’s been dropping with little spikes here and there. The most recent episode 15 drew in 4.152 million viewers, and it scored a 1.48 rating. Those are still pretty strong numbers for a cable show, but they’re nothing like what they used to be. It has lost a lot of viewers over its current 9 season run.
