MasterChef June 22, 2022 Eliminated Cate Meade (Recap)
Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, June 22, 2022, another new episode of MasterChef season 12: Back To Win hit the air with judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich.
Tonight’s challenge was a mystery box challenge, which called for the contestants to make a fabulous dish that included whatever alcohol their mystery box contained. They brought back season 7 winner Shaun O’Neal to make an appearance. The contestants were given 60 minutes to prepare 3 identical dishes. Emily was safe in this episode since she won immunity in last week’s episode.
During the challenge, Alejandro mentioned that he was making a duck dish. Cate was glad to get Bourbon. She said, “I can do anything with Bourbon.” Tommy got scotch alcohol in his mystery box, but he wasn’t sure what to do with it.
Shayne mentioned that he’s making a pork tenderloin dish. Shanika mentioned that she was making a pork tenderloin and peaches dish. Fred said he was making a Phyllo pastry from scratch. At one point, Brandi said she didn’t like the alcohol she got in her mystery box. She said it tasted like cleaner. So, she has no idea what she’s going to make.
Dara told Joe and Aaron that she was making a dessert dish. They thought maybe she was trying to do too much, but they wished her good luck.
Cate told Gordon and Shaun she was making a spiced stone fruit cake. Gordon was worried about the time it would take to pull that off, but he wished her good luck.
Derrick mentioned that he was making an almond liqueur dish. Christian told Joe and Aaron he was making a tequila coconut shrimp dish.
Brandi told Shaun and Gordon that she was making a sesame soy dish with cooked salmon. They told her “Good luck.” Tommy told Joe and Aaron he was making a sweet potato praline pie. Joe said, “Good luck.”
With only 10 minutes left to go, Dara said her caramel sauce crystalized. She got nervous. She said, “This adult version of MasterChef is way different than the Jr version. It’s much harder than I expected. I have no time to correct my mistake.”
Bri mentioned that she was making a Chimichurri dish. Michael said he overcooked his duck breast, and he had to start over.
Fred told Gordon and Shaun he was making a Phyllo pastry. Gordon said it’s delicious.
With just 60 seconds to go, Cate said her cake was underbaked. So, she had to improvise. She said, “My cake doesn’t look good, but I’m hoping the judges see my talent and potential.”
After the time was up, the judges took a look at all the dishes. Then, they picked out who had the top 3 dishes, which were Christian, Fred and Brandi.
Christian presented a Coconut Bang Shrimp with Mezcal & Apricot Sauce and Micro Greens Garnish dish. Gordon said, “The shrimp are delicious. You hit the jackpot. It just needs a slaw to go with it.” Aaron said, “It was clever.” Joe said, “I loved it.”
Fred presented a Krem Pita with Phyllo Pastry, Mascarpone Cream and Miso Apple Brandy Butterscotch dish. Gordon said, “It’s exceptional.” Aaron said, “I loved it. It has lots of flavors.” Joe said, “The apples are perfectly roasted. I loved it. Bravo.”
Brandi presented a Cast Iron Seared Salmon with Soy Sesame & Limoncello Sauce Spot Prawn Ceviche and Sautéed Bok Choy dish. Gordon said, “The salmon is cooked perfectly.” Aaron said, “It has balanced flavors. It’s delicious.” Joe said, “Congratulations.”
After all of that, the judges said Fred had the best dish. So, he won immunity from the next challenge. Christian and Brandi were safe this week.
Next, the judges revealed the 3 worst dishes belong to Dara, Cate and Tommy. Dara presented a Rum Soaked Cake with Mascarpone Cream, Tropical Fruit and Macadamia Nut Brittle dish. Joe said, “It looks dry to me and incomplete.” Aaron said, “The flavor is actually good, but I can’t taste the spice rum.” Joe said, “It looks like pan cakes.” Gordon said, “It’s not up to par.”
Cate presented a Stone Fruit Spiced Cake with Bourbon Caramel Sauce and Creme Fraiche Chantilly Cream dish. Gordon said, “I’m confused. The caramel is delicious, but overall, it’s disappointing.” Aaron said, “There’s lots of technical flaws.” Joe said, “It’s a disaster.”
Tommy presented a Sweet Potato Tartelette with Candied Pralines and Scotch-Infused Butterscotch Sauce dish. Gordon said, “It looks a mess. It’s not very good at all. It’s unfinished.” Joe said, “It taste better than it looks. That’s all I have to say.”
After all of that, the judges decided that poor Cate Meade had the worst dish. So, she was eliminated. Gordon told her, “The actual cake was raw and undercooked. Then, you took bits and threw them on a plate, and it just didn’t work.” How do you guys feel about tonight’s results? Let us know in the comments section.
