MasterChef June 29, 2022 Eliminated Alejandro Valdivia (Recap)
Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, June 29, 2022, another new episode for MasterChef’s current season 12 did indeed air with judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich. Another unlucky contestant did get their walking papers at the end.
Tonight’s episode kicked off with all the contestants getting prepped for a big team challenge event at the US Coastguard. They had to cook a meal for over 100 coast guardsmen. Fred was safe from elimination in this event since he won the last cooking challenge, but he was still required to participate in this cooking event.
Emily told the private cams that she doesn’t like working with a team. At one point, the teams decided who should be captain. The blue team agreed to let Christian be captain for them, and the red team agreed to let Alejandro take the lead.
Each team’s menu was required to have a protein, a starch, two vegetables and a sauce. Alejandro told his red team he wanted to make New York strip for the protein and charred Broccolini for the vegetable. Christian told his blue team he wanted to make corn asparagus for the vegetable, and he would not listen to any other suggestions from anyone. He also suggested a cream lemon sauce.
Derrick didn’t like how Christian was yelling down at everyone during the challenge. Derrick suggested to Christian that he calm down a bit. Eventually, Christian took Derrick’s advice.
Next, Gordon checked on the red team and called out Emily for under-seasoning. Joe checked on the blue team. After that, the teams had to present a test plate to the judges before serving it out to the coast guardsmen.
Christian presented the Cajun Cod with Garlic Mash, Corn Maque Choux, Grilled Asparagus and Tomato Gastrique dish. Gordon said, “It needs more acidity. It’s too sweet.” Aaron agreed with Gordon. Gordon said, “Up your game. You don’t want to lose this challenge.”
Alejandro presented the New York Strip with Sautéed Mushrooms, Charred Broccolini, Roasted Potatoes and Citrus Chimichurri dish. Gordon said, “The meat is raw.” Joe said, “It’s not seasoned properly. It doesn’t excite me.” Aaron said, “The broccolini is woody and tough to eat.” Gordon said, “Get your team together an adjust this plate or else you’re going down young man.”
From there, they had just 20 minutes to make all the adjustments they needed to make. Christian and Derrick got into an argument over the potatoes. Shanika told the private cams, “Alejandro doesn’t know how lead.”
Gordon pointed out that the steaks were cold again when the coast guardsmen arrived. Samantha told the private cams, “Alejandro is failing as a captain. We can’t even hear his voice.”
Gordon yelled at the blue team for being late with the mash potatoes. Derrick said Christian dumped his potatoes in cold water earlier.
Michael also told the private cams that Alejandro was not being a good captain. Joe went around and asked all the coast guardsmen how the meal is. There was some complaints about the steak being raw. Gordon complained to Alejandro and Gabriel about trying to cook some steak that had fell on the floor.
Alejandro said the heat would kill the bacteria. Gordon didn’t like that answer so much that he fired Alejandro as captain. Then, Michael took over as captain for the red team. Gabriel had positive words about Michael taking over saying, “I feel like he can salvage our team.”
Gordon and Joe complained of raw cod fish from the blue team. Alejandro told the private cams, “Gordon was right that I was not a good captain. I’m glad Michael stepped up.” Christian told the private cams, “I regret dumping out Derrick’s potatoes into the water. We would’ve had the potatoes done in time if I hadn’t done that.”
After everything was finally completed, it was revealed that Christian and his blue team won the team challenge. So, they were all safe from elimination. Gordon actually revealed that it was a blowout victory for the blue team as they got 71 votes to the red team’s 30 votes.
To close out the show, the judges chose to eliminate poor Alejandro Valdivia. Gordon told him, “Your team ran you. We never pick food up off the floor and cook it.” Alejandro told the private cams, “I feel bad I let my team down. It’s only fair that I should go home.” How do you guys feel about tonight’s results?
