American Idol May 5, 2024 Eliminated McKenna & Julia. Top 5 Revealed (Recap)

Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, May 5, 2024, another new LIVE performance/results episode for American Idol’s current season 22 did indeed hit the air, and we found out who made it into the top 5 at the end of it.

Tonight’s theme was Adele night. So, each of the top 7 contestants sang one song from Adele’s catalog. They also sang a dance classic song. R&B star Ciara showed up to mentor them. The celebrity judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were all on hand.

Jack Blocker kicked off the performances by singing, “Long Tall Sally” by Little Richard. Afterwards, Luke said “This is not the kid we knew a couple of weeks ago. You used your voice in a different way. 10 out of 10.” Lionel said, “I don’t know what the heck I just saw. I agree with Luke. Give me more of that.” Katy said, “I can’t look at you. That was authentically you.”


Julia Gagnon sang, “Roam” by the B52s. Afterwards, Lionel said, “I like your ability to hold a note. It was fantastic.” Katy said, “What a cool song choice. I wanted a few more dance moves, but I loved your ad libs.” Luke said,”I liked your thought process in the front. I thought you were closed off initially, but then you loosened up and became more confident.”

Abi Carter performed, “I Know What You Did in the Dark” by Fall Out Boy. Afterwards, Katy said, “Why did you hold back your energy all season? I’m scared for my job!” Luke said, “You handled it like a pro. Your performance was Amazing.” Lionel said, “You never broke character!”

McKenna Faith Breinholt sang, “ET” by Katy Perry. Afterwards, Luke said, “You’re pushing yourself and you’re cutting through.” Lionel said, “You made a Katy Perry song your song.” I like how you sat in the drivers seat and took it to the end.” Katy said, “Great job. I didn’t know you had that in you. So great to step into the rock star/pop star.”

Will Moseley sang, “Give Me Three Steps” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Afterwards, Lionel said, “That’s the way to make the nasty. That was so good. I enjoyed that you were having a good time doing it.” Katy said, “You can mosey! You just need to look like you’re having fun. You’re a rock star.” Luke said, “I don’t think I’ve heard you hit a bad not all year. You sing your butt off. That’s why you’re here.”

Emmy Russell sang, “Shut up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. Afterwards, Katy said, “It was still good even though you didn’t get up, but you should continue to push yourself.” Luke said, “I like how much you’ve grown. This was one of your best vocals.” Lionel said, “Your nerves weren’t obvious, and you’re on your way to superstar status.”

Triston Harper sang, “Trouble” by Travis Tritt. Afterwards, Luke said, “You out-gyrated me! You keep smiling and dancing.” Katy said, “I’m so happy for you.”

McKenna Faith Breinholt sang, “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele. Afterwards, Lionel said, “How you can make an Adele song so smokey. That was choice picking.” Katy said, “It’s so you. You’ve shown us how to transform. You’re growing every single time.” Luke said, “That’s your kind of song. It was done perfectly.”

Jack Blocker sang, “One and Only” by Adele. Afterwards, Katy said, “I think you are fully feeling yourself now. That’s what rock stars do. You are someone that we are aspiring to know.” Luke said, “It’s a THANG!” Lionel said, “You have a relaxed period about you. Keep doing it.”

Will Moseley sang, “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. Afterwards, Lionel said, “Your performance was fantastic.” Katy said, “You gave an Adele song Will Moseley vibes.”

Julia Gagnon sang, “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele. Afterwards, Lionel said, “Way to go to make an Adele song your own. It was something to watch.” Katy said, “This was your lane. You are making such strategic choices.” Luke said, “You delivered a relaxed and assured performance.”

Emmy Russell sang,”Water Under the Bridge” by Adele. Afterwards, Katy said, “You’ve never sounded better than tonight. You got the memo, Emmy.” Luke said, “You know exactly who you are, and you stay there.” Lionel said, “You’ve conquered your demons. You’re a little sassy and sultry.”

Triston Harper sang, “Easy on Me” by Adele. Afterwards, Luke said, “This performance was really, really you.” Lionel said, “You turn into yourself when you take the mic out of the stand.” Katy said, “It’s about how you sell the story. Those words are also your words.”

Abi Carter capped off the performances by singing, “Hello” by Adele. Afterwards, Lionel said, “It’s the best I’ve ever heard from you. Soulful, delicate and personal. That was amazing.” Katy said, “Your performance was angelic frequency.” Luke said, “It was tremendous.”

Next, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that everyone was safe and through to the top final 5 except for poor McKenna Faith Breinholt and Julia Gagnon. So, they were sadly eliminated.

That means your top 5 contestants are: Abi Carter, Jack Blocker, Triston Harper, Will Moseley and Emmy Russell. How do you guys feel about that? Let us know in the comments section.
