‘X-Men Origins : Wolverine’ Movie Review
This movie was absolutely excellent, and totally rocked as it went back in time to the beginnings of Logan (Hugh Jackman) better known as “Wolverine”. We also got to see the origins of his brother,Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) known as, “Sabretooth”. It showed that Logan goes from a sickly child one moment to a revengeful killer the next. Victor likes it, as he realizes that his “always sick little brother” is a mutant just like him. So they run off together to fight in wars while servicing in the military. But then Victor starts to fall off the wagon a little bit. He starts attacking civilians, and some of his own team members. Logan who’s vowed to stand by his brother gets taken down with him and thrown in prison.
This is when the movie takes a turning point as Scientist, William Stryker (Danny Huston) comes onto the scene. He offers both Logan and Victor a deal that gets them out of prison, and allows them to do what they do best, kill people. They introduce other mutant characters :John Wraith (Will i Am),Frederick J. Dukes (Kevin Durand), Chris Bradley / Bolt (Dominic Monaghan), David North / Agent Zero (Daniel Henney),and Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds).
Eventually things get uncomfortable for Logan. He decides to leave the team and Victor behind. The movie skips ahead six years later from this point.Victor returns to the scene in not such a nice way as it involves a few murders. Logan, hell bent on stopping Victor allows Stryker to implant a super metal substance into him which would make him indestructible. Then the Wolverine as we know him to be is born. Once he realizes that Stryker wants him dead, he goes on a mission to stop Stryker and his activities of kidnapping mutants, and experimenting on them.
He meets Remy LeBeau / Gambit (Taylor Kitsch),the card slinging mutant who escaped the clutches of Stryker, and is the only one who knows how to find him. He takes him to Stryker’s location. The action really picks up from here with great fight scenes, a few surprise ending twists, and we also see how Stryker caused Logan to lose the memories of his past. The movie was a blast to watch.
My Take :This movie was absolutely no let down. I see why people like Wolverine so much. The character is so intense. He will stop it nothing to kick whoever’s butt is in his way. I thought Hugh Jackman was great as usual in the film. Also Ryan Reynolds was super funny in the film when he was playing Wade Wilson. The scene where he says, “Ok, people are dead now !” was funny as hell. Will i Am from the “Black Eyed Peas” did a great job as John Wraith as well. I actually never new Sabretooth was Wolverine’s brother so it was also a bit of a learning experience for me. The storyline and build up was excellent as it explained everything in great detail about Wolverine’s past. It packed a ton of action, and the movie also seemed unique and original all the way through. X-Men Origins : Wolverine was no let down at all. Go check it out.
