‘Dear John’ Movie Gets Below Average Reviews From Top Movie Critics

‘Dear John’ movie gets below average reviews from top movie critics. Screen Gems’ new drama movie entitled, “Dear John” hit theaters today. It stars: Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, Henry Thomas, Richard Jenkins, and Keith Robinson. It got some pretty “below average” reviews from top movie critics,getting mostly Ds and Cs across the board.

Janice Page from the Boston Globe gave it a C. She said, it “Sparks of familiarity in this tear-jerker.” Roger Ebert at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a C. He stated,it “tells the heartbreaking story of two lovely young people who fail to find happiness together because they’re trapped in an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel.”

Michael Phillips over at the Chicago Tribune gave it a C rating. He said, it “Follows weepie formula to the letter.” Luke Y. Thompson at E! Online gave it a C+. He stated, it was “a horribly contrived third act displaces our empathy with its conveniences.”

Lisa Schwarzbaum at “Entertainment Weekly” gave it a C+. She said, that it was “weightless.” Sean O’Connel from Filmcritic.com gave it a B-. He said, it “demands its characters make difficult choices as it develops.”

Kirk Honeycutt from the “Hollywood Reporter” gave it a D+. He stated, it was “A lame romance coupled with more handicaps and hardships than any film can survive without the charge of audience manipulation.”

Lou Lumenick at the New York Post gave it a D rating. He stated, it was “the sort of movie that gives tearjerkers a bad name.” Peter Travers from “Rolling Stone” gave it a D. He said, “As for the ladies who think any kind of chick flick is preferable to football, be careful what you wish for.”

Amy Biancolli at the San Francisco Chronicle gave it a C. She stated, “Annoying epistolary back-and-forth over endless montages.” USA Today’s Claudia Puig gave it a C. She said, “Correspond with Dear John at your own peril.” “Dear John” is in theaters now.
