American Idol May 8, 2022 Eliminated Jay Copeland & Christian Guardino (Recap)

Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, May 8, 2022, another LIVE performances/results show for American Idol’s current season 20 did indeed air, and we found out who the top five contestants will be!

The judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were, of course, on hand to deliver up their comments and opinions. Tonight, the contestants performed two songs instead of one. One of the songs were popular Tik Tok songs. The other one was a song dedicated to mothers and mother figures since today is Mother’s Day. It was revealed that music producer Will.i.am was the contestants’ mentor this week.

Host, Ryan Seacrest had some bad news to deliver about Fritz Hager and Noah Thompson. Apparently, they had both tested positive for Covid 19. So, Fritz Hager was judged from his rehearsal footage from yesterday, and Noah actually just performed his sets from his hotel room.

The contestants sang their Tik Tok songs first. To kick off tonight’s Tik Tok songs performances, Leah Marlene sang, “Electric Love” by Borns. Afterwards, Lionel said, “I love your movement, tonight. You did a wonderful job commanding the stage.”

Jay Copeland performed, “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. Afterwards, Katy said, “Your runs are unique and artistic. You did justice to a Whitney Houston song.”

Fritz Hager sang his own original song called, “All My Friends.” Afterwards, Luke said, “It’s amazing. You got all the tools.”

Christian Guardino sang, “Lonely” by Justin Bieber. Afterwards, Lionel said, “You are unique unto this planet. Stay on course.”

HunterGirl performed, “You Broke Me First” by Tate McRae. Afterwards, Katy said, “You are such a natural on stage.”

Noah Thompson sang, “Painted Blue” by Sunday Best from his hotel room since he has Covid. Afterwards, Luke said, “You’re a star, despite sitting in a hotel room with Covid. This one of your best performances!”

Nicolina Bozzo sang, “Alone” by Heart. Afterwards, Lionel said, “You’re a star in control. You got it. You’re there.”

Next, the contestants performed their Mother’s Day songs. Jay Copeland kicked it off by singing, “A Song for Mama” by Boyz II Men. Afterwards, Katy said, “I’m ecstatic about your growth. You have instant identity.” Luke said, “You’re hitting everything perfectly right now.” Lionel said, “You’re stepping into your own.”

Fritz Hager sang another one of his original songs called, “The Ocean.” Afterwards, Luke said, “You look and sound like a pro. Another amazing performance. Please vote everybody.” Lionel said, “My friend, your star has arrived.” Katy said, “It was a combination of Bright Eyes and James Taylor.”

Leah Marlene performed,”Sanctuary” by Charles Esten, Lennon and Maisy. Afterwards, Lionel said, “You’ve found your center. You can take that for the rest of your life and make the greatest career ever.” Katy said, “You’re mature and graceful. You sound like an Angel.” Luke said, “You’re tone was really great tonight.”

HunterGirl sang, “Like My Mother Does” by Lauren Alaina. Afterwards, Katy said, “You still deserve the Platinum Ticket today.” Luke said, “I liked your song choice and performance.” Luke said, “You did a fabulous job.”

Noah Thompson sang, “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. Afterwards, Luke said, “The right vibes are happening in the room.” Lionel said, “The texture of your voice is even better, despite you having COVID. You nailed it.” Katy said, “I think your adrenaline took over. You’ve done the best you’ve ever done.”

Nicolina Bozzo performed, “Light in a Hallway” by Pentatonix. Afterwards, Lionel said, “Your performance was flawless.” Katy said, “Both of your performances were A+.” Luke said, “Your performance was flawless.”

To close out tonight’s performances, Christian Guardino sang, “Dear God” by Smokie Norful. Afterwards, Katy said, “I feel the spirit in here. You sang that like a second skin. That was one of your best performances.” Luke said, “It was pouring out of your soul.” Lionel said, “That was the most incredible performances coming out of your mouth.”

Next, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Noah Thompson, Nicolina Bozzo, HunterGirl, Leah Marlene and Fritz Hager were all safe this week and through to the top 5! Unfortunately, that also meant that poor Christian Guardino and Jay Copeland did not get enough votes to stay and were eliminated. How do you guys feel about that?
