‘Fame’ Remake Brought Good Performances, But A Little Choppy
The MGM remake of the classic, drama, musical “Fame” movie hit the theaters this weekend. The movie was ok for what it was, I guess. It had some pretty good performances, and dealt with issues that kids who want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry might face,as they make their way through it.
It starred : Asher Book, Kristy Flores, Paul Iacono, Paul McGill, Naturi Naughton, Kay Panabaker, Kherington Payne, Collins Pennie, Walter Perez, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Debbie Allen, Charles S. Dutton, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally, and Bebe Neuwirth.
“Fame” centered around a group of talented kids who made it into the New York City High School of Performing Arts, and followed them for their four year term.Basically it followed the kids as they struggled to find out which avenue they wanted to pursue, and how some of them probably wouldn’t be good enough to do what they wanted to do on the professional level.
It followed Jenny Garrison who is a wanna be actress and her first year struggles at the school, along with a deceptive acting gig that she fail prey to. Another student named Victor Taveras is a musician, and followed his bumpy first year at the school, as he didn’t want to play the given notes because they’re too boring.
Wanna be rapper, Malik Washburn has to find a way to come to terms with his unfortunate, real life situations so that he can move on and express himself. Classical pianist, Denise Dupree reveals that she can also sing really, really well, but is being held back by her parents from pursuing the goals that she really wants to achieve.
It concludes with a lot of feel good moments and performances, as the movie jumps from each of their high school years, all the way to their senior year, where they graduate from the school.
The movie had a pretty good story. However, it was inevitably chopped up since it moved through all of their high school years in a two hour length of time. It had some comedy in it,and some good performances. I wasn’t ever board while watching it. It’s a pretty good movie for the family.
