Riverdale Season 2 Might Introduce A New Popular Supernatural Character, New Details
This past weekend, Riverdale’s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa joined the rest of the main cast on stage at the big 2017 Comic-Con event in San Diego,California. At one point during the Q&A session, he commented on whether or not they had plans to introduce any of the supernatural elements of the Archie comics into the TV series.
During his comment, he mentioned that they have discussed bringing on a very “prominent” supernatural character from the Archie universe into the mix! He stated, “You know, I love horror stuff and I love dreams and jump scares and things like that so we’re always trying to figure out ways to put hints of that in Riverdale. We’re talking about one very prominent supernatural character that exists in the Archie universe and that’s all I can say.”
It’s highly speculated that this “prominent” character could quite possibly be Sabrina the teenage witch because she’s the best known supernatural element from the Archie Comics world. She appeared in the “Afterlife with Archie” series. According to that series, zombie activity starts up when Jughead asks Sabrina to bring his beloved dog back to life after it got hit by a car.
Also, during season 1 the showrunner Robert told the press that they are looking for a way to introduce Sabrina that didn’t immediately usher in a bunch of supernatural shenanigans to Riverdale. Here’s where it really gets interesting. He revealed that he had an idea that featured the town of Greendale which is located on the other side of the river from Riverdale. This Greendale town is the place where Sabrina resides and it allows for all sorts of otherworldly things to happen all the time.
However, Sabrina would only be able to bring just a little bit of that stuff across the river to Riverdale. This concept would allow Riverdale to stay mostly grounded in a world that is just sort of supernatural adjacent so it doesn’t overwhelm the series.
With all that said, Robert didn’t exactly confirm or deny that they would bring some supernatural stuff to the show. But, he definitely said he was in talks to introduce a supernatural character. So, at the very least, we do know that they are considering trying to bring it into play at some point.
It could be at anytime. So, we’ll just have to wait and see. We will definitely keep looking for more spoiler intel. So, if anything else pops up in reference to this supernatural topic, we’ll most certainly post it. Season 2 is set to start up on Wednesday night, October 11th,2017 on The CW.
